some time ago i build one, actual 2, brace bar for my MK3 metro, i'm quite sure some people did before.
i have to say thats the biggest improvement i've done to this car. now it clearly shows that i have to rebuild the rear radius arms, they are slightly worn.

i've used 20x20 milimeter square tube, 1 meter in lenght. you need nearly 50cm each side, and a plate of 50x120x5mm for the front i had lying around.

Does it fit with the spare wheel well?

I haven't thought of these brace bars yet, but it looks like it could make the rear a bit stiffer!

It does indeed make a notable difference. I have made one where the stiffening metal rod is bend around the spare wheel.

absolutely no problem with the spare wheel well. the rear exhaust box is much closer. but nothing a minor hammer blow can not fix
