New user Posts: 22 | Hi Guys, As mentioned in my intro, my wife and I (mostly her) have a 1994 1.4Si 5-door Metro, which we have owned for the last 17 years. In that time it has received a smalla mount of work. Additional front dampers were added very early on. A couple of years back, somebody broke into it by folding out the rear passenger side door window frame, so I had to replace the door. Then there has been a couple of head gasket failures, one recently. I have replaced both rear arches, and done a few little repairs. But, now has come the time to do some major work. Rust was getting the better of it, so it came off the road, holding up my own V8 Cortina project, and I am now doing a minor restoration. Currently, the rear subframe and fuel tank are out, and I am doing the rust repairs. Once the rear end is done, there is a small rust hole half way down the passenger side floor, near the sill, and then it is the front end, including an engine rebuild. We will be keeping the 1.4 8v SPI. Lastly, I will give it a quick paint job and put it back on the road. Improvements will be individualising the suspension, lowering a bit, and running at 400psi. I have just uploaded some of the recent photos to the website, so have a look. http://www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/metro Mike. Edited by mk5cortinaestate 26/2/2014 9:33 PM

New user Posts: 22 | Lots more done. The rear end underside is now finished and in paint, and ready for reassembly, and I am now working my way forwards. Lots more photos now on the webpage. Just click on the link above.

New user Posts: 22 | Definitely getting there, but the wife would like it back on the road soon, and I still need to weld up the passenger side floor, reassemble the rear end, and do a full respray, so we are thinking of putting off the engine rebuild and engine bay for the time being. We'll get it back on the road, finish the Cortina, then finish off the Metro.

New user Posts: 22 | Probably going to be the easiest way to do it. That way, we can have it off the road for the shortest possible time.

New user Posts: 22 | At last, we are ready to get this car back on the road! MOT is booked for Friday. It has been a long hard slog. I haven't done anything with the engine at the moment, and the top side bodywork still needs sorting. All I have done is the underside bodywork and mechanics (and a few bits on the top that really couldn't wait), and it has still taken a whole year. I will be taking it back off the road in the Spring/Summer to do the top side bodywork, and giving it a full blow over respray. The webpage (linked at the top of the page) has been updated with all the latest photos. Fingers crossed the MOT goes OK, as the wife is dying to get back behind the wheel, and wants to get to POL this year.
