After a lot of planning I finally started my 16V SPI to 16V MPI conversion yesterday.
Why convert from Spi to mpi? My main reason is the planned installation of a LPG system. I did more than 40000 km with this metro in the last 2 years and really like it as a daily. To reduce the fuel costs, LPG seems to be a good idea.

So, engine out, flywheel changed from 2 pole to 4 pole, new clutch, new cambelt and tensioner and the first day was over.
While I changed the belt, I found out, why the car was so lound at higher speeds:
The engine mount was loose and one screw was already missing...
Argh!

Today I fitted the MPI fuelpump, the cam cover, many other small bits and refitted the engine.

Since my alternator is only 55amp and the mounting bracket is cracked, I would like to fit a 85amp MGF alternator YLE102430 I have lying around.
Did one of you fit this with the 4rib  belt pulley? The pulley from the old alternator fits, but could be bit misaligned
Does one of you know, what kind of plug I need for this alternator?

Which ignition coil should I use?
I fitted the coil at the back of the engine block. That means the plug from the 100 MPI loom fits, but on my SPI the ignition is part of the body loom.
What to do now?

Tomorrow a brand new Janspeed manifold will be fitted and I hope to get it started!

That's the car it's all about:

as far as I have read one of the differences between petrol and lpg is the air-fuel ratio, so without ever having build an lpg car I guess you need to adjust this somehow.

Sounds like a cool project.
I reckon a Blos lpg carb would work well with a K series.

I will use a KME diego LPG device. It's not like the old veturi systems. It has it's own ECU and is fully adjustable.

Anyone any ideas about the alternator plug?

Could be a AMP Econoseal J, but I am not sure yet.

That's right! The 85 smp alternator is only found on MEMS3 cars.
I  don't want to buy a complete engine loom only for this plug...

Its a common Bosch alterator, also found with that plug on many VAG cars if that helps.

a user 'itsonlyme' on here might be able to cut a plug from a loom for you and send it if you get stuck

Use the MPI coilpack, i think yo have to leave the existing coil behind the headlight fitted, or at least one of the wires to it. Can anyone confirm?

You dont need to leave it, I have used the white ign live to feed the rad ran relay on conn 86 (and the ecu to signal the relay on conn 85),
but you need to join the 2 white/black wires together so the rev counter will work.
This was on a mems 2J coil pack on the block setup, also works with mems3 setup.

that should be the regular VW plug, made by FEP Fahrzeugtechnik. available from nearly any automitive electric dealer.

but why not use a generator with the right connectors and 85A? should be YLE101530

Because metro owners like to do things the hard way, and learn a little in the process

KLAS you are an endless source of Rover electric knowledge. Thank you! Got this plug from an AUDI A3 on the scrapyard!

Because the other one was lying around and came a MGF engine.
If someone wants to upgrade to 85AMP and MGF bracket:

You'll have to change to the MGF style oil filter flange too.
Otherwise, you can't tension the belt.
Actually, the belt is 5 rib and not 4 rib, so the pully had to be changed.
Why didn't I to this when the engine was out the car?
I suppose this was again learning it the hard way.

Thanks for your advices about the ignition coil!

The engine is in but I didn't have all the MPI coolant hoses. Ordered some silicone hoses and hope, they'll do the job. Hopefully this runs again next weekend...

It turned out, that the new fuel pump only delivered around one bar pressure. Not enough for a MPI.

Now a Walbro pump is in and it really did run well for two days.
Then the immobiliser decided to not work. The fob does not disarm the immobiliser. Tried a new battery in the fob, but that did not help.
Any ideas?
