It'd rotted through mate... everybody's so surprised at that, like I said on top of the picture, never seen a Metro rust there before. Maybe the door was slammed hard one day it caused the panel to crack or something, but it was rotten. Could have filled it but by the rate its deteriorated over the last 3 months and since the car is going in for a respray I thought I may as well do the job properly and get it welded up.

It's where the striker was, directly underneath, 3 cracks running in different directions, all rusted. I removed it obviously knowing I wouldn't be putting it back on again and it revealed what I expected... the piece of metal that the striker is on pretty much detached itself from the car.

It's obviously a vital section for side impact and shell strength so it'll be fixed properly in good time

We like lows, we do not like badger-chuffs. Impressive simile!

Thanks mate

Currently still looking for work, the car is moving all over the place purely because I refuse to sell it! It'd be much more realistic to buy a 111 and insure that, since, being 18, it's £1500 more to insure a 114! But I just can't bring myself to sell it

Sorting out a Hydra pump at the moment so that I can get it raised for MOT and stanced when I get the 13x7 superlites on, apart from that she's sitting like this atm very sorry for herself

Craig, try Premium Choice for insurance - they're quoting me about half that everyone else is quoting me for any car I try and insure, same for a mate of mine who's just insured his 2 litre BMW 3 series with them! Give them a shout, they may be able to sort you out.

I hope this doesn't sound mean but i've noticed you say this on loads of people's topics. It's not projected, it's project!

Projected is like projecting light against something!!

Sorry, just had to be said

Well I obviously need the engine to go with it!

Progress is slow but she's getting there now Got my superlites from Simons Mini to go on so a bit of work to do there, hoping to have it back from welding/painting come the end of April

I thought the engine change would be easy but I just dont have the facilities etc to do it properly and smoothly. I think the ultimate goal was always a VVC so I may just buy one of those to put into it rather than faffing with it again in the future... decisions

I would say go all the way mate and vvc it I've just put 1.4 16v in mine and its not as fast as thought and with all the effort I wish I had just waited a little long and put in a vvc now lol

Forgot this thread existed! Still going strong with this, I made a new thread but thought I'd drop a few photos here so people can get a look at the start, can't believe I've had it over 3 years!

Lots has changed, I cringe at some of the things I did to the car back at the start of this thread, but hey we were all young and naive on our first cars once right!?

She's now manual and mpi, and more importantly I became old enough to drive her and passed my test!

Most recent pictures of her as she is now

Another update after almost 10k of awesome fun in this car.

She's been to Holland

Whilst there I fitted a GTI interior

and at the International Mini Meeting for Mini 55

and we had a mad week after the IMM visiting a whole host of places. Brands Hatch summer Wednesdays:

So we had a fun day yesterday, trying to turn two Minis into one...

It didn't really work!

But in the evening time was better spent picking up my new Ebay special. It's a Rover 114GSI which failed it's MOT on a few things, namely rust of course. The front and rear subframe mounts are both gone, it's been rear ended and is generally shoddy...

So why did I buy this I hear you say?

Because of THIS!:

Full GSI interior trimmed in leather. This was an option on the Rover 114GSi but not many people took it at all. I saw a set in a car a few months ago and fell in love, but I thought my hopes of finding one were slim to none. £150 and a trip to Bexhill later and she's home and ready to be broken! If anybody needs anything, let me know!

So Rita's new friend is all stripped out and the interior is ready to go into Rita

I had a bit of an Ebay impulse, something I've been after for a while though. When I spotted this boot liner I expected it to go for quite a lot, it was an option at new and I've heard rumours it was an £85 option. I watched it and in the last 10 minutes had a few bids, I had a price in my head but ended up winning it for £22 which I was really pleased with.

It's a Rover 100 boot liner tailored the fit. I don't really need it, but it's another nice thing to have I'm driving up to meet somebody with the GTI interior at Northampton services on Sunday, and then onwards to Peterborough to collect it, and then on to see my dear old nan in the evening, she's having another big operation to have two brain tumours removed so it will be lovely to see her again.

All leathered up I changed the entire loom to include the electric windows and rear speakers rather than splicing into the loom. My fuel tank is leaking and the connectors underneath are rusty so I'm going to be replacing that soon too. Rather than having the connectors for the fuel pump and sender under the car near the exhaust which is standard on Metros, I'll use the wiring from my old loom to run the correct coloured wires into the car and run along the sills.

I had a problem with the new loom from two wires on the immobliser which were damaged. It took me a few hours to find the problem and why fuse 21 kept blowing but once repaired all was well and she's all good to go again

So that's where we are now. I won a Laguna Splitter on Ebay and will be collecting that in the week, will be nice to have one fitted again.

Other than that I just bought this:

Which is to be an extensive restoration. That means that the Metro is now on hold a little bit as far as changes, but I'm pretty happy with where I'm at now. I wanted to take her off the road but since the Mini has come along she'll have to do another winter. I hope it will be her last before she's retired for winters and kept as a summer road trip and show car.

I will keep you all updated.

My boyfriends red Mini is now also finished, but the engine needs to come back out to fix another damn oil leak! even if we did change every gasket and seal!
