hey guys iam think in removing the vvc system and use it with normal cams ( not piper or kent), big valves and stock cams. do guys think that will work any good? with stock ecu.

btw i think my TRO will live again

there is no 'stock' non vvc inlet cam for a vvc head.

the vvc inlet cams use bigger journals so you need a specially made inlet cam. obviously people like piper arent going to bother making inlet cams that give less power than the sstd vvc setup. and youd still need a vvc mech blanking kit too.

if you want to run normal cams and ecu youll have to stick a 'normal' head back on it too.

well the thing is that here in portugal we dont order the piper conversions (too expensive), so what we do is to make the parts ourself to fit normal cams in the VVC head. the only diference for the piper conversion is the cams duration. i only like to know if the standard cams are any good enough for the big valves.

how are you going to fit the normal inlet cam in the head?

the blanking kit would be fairly easy to make if you had the equipment, but a normal inlet cam would still not work in the head because the journals are too big.

unless you weld up the journals and get them re machined to fit a normal cam.

'if' you could get a normal inlet cam into the head it would probably work ok. the std vvc exhaust cam has only a little more lift and duration than the standard exhaust and inlet camshaft.

Only way to do this is like what my dad had custom made for his MGF about 5-6 years ago. Using a standard 1800 it was tweaked(ported/flowed) and had a the casting modified to take the VVC valves and guides and run the standard 1800 solid cams, it cost a fair bit but was completely custom and one-off as the guides were made for the head and the head had to be enlarged in areas to allow grinding for the valves to fit. When it was finished running everything standard, like plastic inlet manifold, exhaust system, cams, ecu the engine produced a healthy 160bhp @ the flywheel and around 136ftlbs torque and when the engine was at idle it was so smooth you couldn't tell if it was running so everytime you stopped at the lights you had to rev it to make sure it was still running

This head is currently fitted to a friends 218is along with VVC inlet manifold, 52mm t/b, airfilter and janspeed exhaust system(inc manifold) and now produces 175bhp still running the standard mems 1.9 ecu.
