Right, as i wouldnt get around to having the conversion done until the summer...
i was thinking it may work out cheaper for me to buy this 'good' engine, and collect the other parts.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rover-K-series-1600cc-1-6-ENGINE-MGF-Metro-Gti-kit-car_W0QQitemZ4612941834QQcategoryZ10414QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

its just the block and head from what is shown, i could just do with a little help compiling the list of other stuff (baring in mind i have a 1400 8v mpi) - if it goes silly prices, ill still be looking at getting a complete engine, 1600 or 1800...

from what i can remember, i would need: (add any others if you know)

-any 16valve metro exhaut manifold
-any 16valve inlet manifold/throttle body
-1600 ecu
-1600 loom (or could it be any 16v loom?)
-ignition leads

exhaust - correct

inlet manifold / throttlebody depends what ecu youre running. i dont think an ecu for a plastic manifold car which uses an air bleed type stepper motor will run the mechanical stepper motor the alloy manifold uses, and vice verca.

i think the engine looks themselves are interchangeable though, and can be completely seperated from the main car loom if you unclip a wire from the underbonnet fuse box.

not sure how different the r100 wiring is so dont want to give any advice that might be completely wrong because ive only done metros before.

Yep all you need to get is the inlet and exhaust manifolds...you will have the rest in your engine bay already. You can use your loom alternator, bracketry etc...Ideal opportunity to upgrade to a VVC inlet for a bit more power aswell

Oh and a set of HT leads...mot really the end of the earth

also sorry,
would i need any kind of flywheel set up? (something to do with clutch pickups also) or would that all be fine?

the advert says 'may end for good offer' - what would you offer up?

your 1.4 flywheel should be fine. as its a late mpi it should allready have 4 crankshaft sensor pickups.

a 216 clutch will bolt to a 1.4 flywheel, though you may need to use bolts that arent 'shouldered' for the cover plate.

i have an exhaust manifold from a late mpi gti which you can have for free, unfortunatly the 2 pipes that go under the sump are very squashed, but might be repairable?
