. hi all
1.4 GTI 16v

had an issue recently where the idle speed is unstable, better when hot but still not great, after 2 mins running from starting the idle speed hovers around 1500 - 20000, sharply blipping the pedal sometimes helps it a bit sometime not.
doing my head in ive wiggled everything to no avail, just now i ran it up and got it to do the whole fast idle thing, i then took the induction pipe off the TB and poked the butterfly and the revs dropped down to a great smooth low idle, - drove it - doing it again, this time i pushed the lever on the outside of the TB and again perfect idle, there is no tension in the cable, im guessing the butterfly is sticking somewhere but where? is there a known sticky spot?
The other thing is the throttle body i have is a bit old anyway, i believe its the early alloy 56mm version? is there a direct swap bolt on plug in throttle body available on a 1990 j reg GTI?

Thanks
