time has come start my journal, basically i have been toying with idea of a turbo diesel metro for some time . i know the tud5 engine in my metro is a peugeot lump and with a fair few hours trawling the web i have found out that in india they have cars with tis engine combined with a small turbo like a t15 size , so i know it is deffinatly possible apparently these cars are reliable with turbos fitted .

i love the bosch ve fuel pumps and i would love to fit a tinkered one to my engine but havent come across a 106 in the scrappy with all the parts i need. so to keep things simple i will be sticking with lucas injection pump but from a 306 dturbo along with the turbo and the intercooler from the same car . i will be limiting myself to 1bar boost with a 2.5 inch side exit pipe with one silencer . i know a fair bit about bosch ve tuning but i am unsure on the tunability of the lucas systems e.g modifing the governor ect

still thinking of going to bosch injection as i hve an awsome base pump off of a landrover 300 tdi . i willbe using an 8mm plunger and a ford transit di cam plate to provide a longer duration to the injection process. has anyone got any bosh injection parts from a 106 kicking around

306 d turbo Lucas pumps don't have governors apart from the fuel that's pretty much all you can do

Put a 306 Bosch pump on there 9mm plungers as standard

Or go whole hog and fit a xud engine

These are from an LDV van and look identical to K series Metro dials except a lower redline on the rev counter so if you could get the rev counter to work you could have a nice high spec Turbo Diesel R100/ Metro

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LDV-400-89-97-2-5-speedo-speedometer-clocks-instrument-panel-83k-/290800415966?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b50e34de

Have you got any photos of the car in question?

A bit of research shows these and LR Discovery 200TDi have their rev counters wired straight to the alternator, though a bit of playing about might be required for the Pug engine.

i have done some realy in depth tuning with the bosch ve pump on my transporter t4 which tommi b now has . the problem with the bosch pump with the lda on top is that is would foul the bonnet and the slam pannel . xud lump wont fit easyly . the only way i would be able to fit a bosch pump would be to use a n/a body off of a 306d then use the control leaver from a landrover pump with the increased fulcrum point to alow the valve on the plunger to move to maximum fuel when the throttle pedal is all the way to the floor and the obvious governor shimming to raise the rev limit . i will be posting some pics soon i have a few bosch ve pumps to hand to practice with and see what fits . does any one know weather the injectors on a 306 d turbo fit into the tud5 head?

the un fortunate position of the fuel pump.

 photo 1359209209882_zpsbfedf307.jpg

the amount of space between the engine and the bulkhead, i will be getting rid of the bulky plenum chamber to alleviate room for the turbo . i will then weld an ally tube as close to the cylinderhead as possible with the inlet opening on the gearbox side

 photo 1359208883466_zps418bc7f4.jpg

 photo 1359208922373_zpsaed9d7da.jpg

and this is the k03 turbo from a vw 1.9ahu engine the picture shows the size of the turbo in respect to the space that i have to work with and i am peased to say it wont be such a hard task as there is quite a bit of space . for the exhaust manifold i will be cutting it off of the flange that bolts to the cylinder head and as the exhaust ports are round and evenly spaced i will simply weld the manifold back onto the flance but upside down , this will give me a good bace to start from . i will also be making an adapter that joins the orriginal down pipe to the exhaust housing flange on the turbo.the exhaust system is going to be a straight 1.75" no silencer pipe with a conical step up adapter to a 2.5" out rolled exhaust tip .

 photo 1359209067402_zps13096969.jpg

other mods:
red band steering rack
gti front anti roll bar (not got a rear one yet)
gti shocks
leaving the car at standard ride hight and using 155/70/13 continental eco-contact tyres on mpi rims . (less drag for better mpg lol)
citroen sxo vtr flywheel clutch and gearbox (220mm clutch , closer ratio gearbox with a steeper overdrive )

mainainance:

full service
front pads and rear shoes
tidy brake pipes up

Got a pic and some measurements of stud spacing on the turbo? I think I might have a manifold that could help. It's from a e36 BMW 318tds. You could at least use the turbo flange(if its right), but if the spacing is right you might only have to re drill the holes at the engine side?

sounds good to me . i will get a pic up tomorrow after collage . i am pretty sure that the flange is triangular with three holes aranged equalatraly am not sure if the exhaust port is offset like on the bmw one tho . if it will do the job what you looking for it price wise , will you be able to pm me more details ?

Turbo got sold(and yes it was a 3stud flange type), but manifold is just kicking around waiting for me to find a use for it, which is unlikely, so you might as well get some use out of it.

i will be having that then pal . you wouldnt happen to know where the oil pressure sensore is on the tud5 lump would you?

No idea sorry, I bought it as a punt to see if it would fit an e30 petrol 318is for a cheap low comp conversion but the IS is oval exhaust ports and it was way off. Try realoem.com for schematics diagrams, they have all Beamers on there.

i think i have found the oil pressure switch so i will be putting a t piece in and tapping a feed from there. The oil return is a sump off job and weld a drain into it . it shouldnt be hard that bit its the planning and getting everything together before i jump in and get it done. i want to get everything together and finish it in a weekend in the summer whilst i am off collage

i keep thinking of using a 306 lucas td pump as it will stop me from going mad with the fueling and boost because its addictive especialy when you know its there . the last bosch pump i tuned was on my 1.9 transporter van and i would love to put one on my metro the problem is space between the bonnet and the slam pannel so i would have to do some different mods to get more fuel at the top of the rev range so if i do go bosch injection route the fuel pump spec will be .

.n/a 106 fuel pump body
.locked off main spring on the governor
.11mm ford transit pump head shimmed plunger springs
.landrover discovery principle lever

this setup would have no boost actuated fueling but it would allow maximum fueling if needed at full pedal travel but would let you have a nice lean setup at the other end of the pedle travel, this is down to the landrover principle leaver having an increased fulcrum point alowing the fuel valve to move alot further when the governor lever is actuated . this will possibly be way too much for a standard engine on standard 23:1 compression so i am looking for a cylinder head to modify to accept some larger pre-chambers to drop the compresswion down to about 19.5-20:1 compression but the downside will be that i may have trouble cold starting . if i do lower the compression i will be looking at running the k03 blower at 26psi boost with the pump spec that i have stated and i would be hoping for round the 125bhp mark with a shed load of tourque to match and it should still be very economical returning very close to what i have now in terms of mpg and not far off vvc performance . with the lucas pump i want 85 bhp and a nice reserved amount of boost so the engine last a while i think 85bhp is not an unreasonable figure
.

Good information there, thanks.

Have you looked into using the 16 valve head, modified of course, from the 1.6 gti? As people keep telling me the 1527cc diesel has the same block as the 1.6 gti engine.
