hi everybody!!

My name is Joanes, a 23 years old boy from San sebastian in the Basque country, located between Spain and france.

I have grow up between rovers, as my father owned first a rover sd1 very rare on here (now waiting for restoration)and a 825sd(unfortunately crashed), and also my first car was and is a 220sd. This makes my appreciate a lot rovers, and as I wanted a car for having fun for the weekends as we are surrounded of mountains and we have great mountain roads, I started searching a car for that.

The first option was obviously a rover . I started looking for the typical ones on here like the 220gsi, 218-220 coupe and some mg like the zr or the zs, but none of them attract me enough, as most of them where in bad conditions.

Until a day, that I don’t know how, reached to a page where a white 114gti was on sale. I got very impressed as I never saw any of them and didn’t even knew it existed. I started looking for information in pages and forums like this one haha, and got in love with that little thing, I had to have one!!

I have been searching for about 6 months, and finally found a red 1991 114 gti SPI, that stayed in the same place from 2011 on a garaje. It has some work but I am very happy with it. My intention with it is restoring it for outside and the interior, leaving it the most original as possible with my touch, and if I have the option to buy a vvc engine do the conversion, but this is not a priority.

I have some photos but they are of bad quality. For the moment I have taken out all the interior and threw it as it was incredibly dirty and full of dog hair. With no interior, I have been quitting some minimal rusty points and will paint all the floor of black for protecting it.

I have also buy some parts, like mg metro red carpet set, zero exterior temperature warning sensor, headlight covers, mgf calipers and a janspeed exhaust manifold of the gti MPI, that will probably go with a sportex exhaust system. Most of them are not important things, but I think the car will look better with them.

hope the post does not disturb anyone, just wanted to present my self and be part of this great forum if possible.

kind regards,

Joanes.

this one is of the donator, it is better than the red one, but it has documentations problems, so I will use is as donator.

Welcome, thanks for sharing your pictures

Both those cars look incredibly rust free compared to ours in the UK!

No sunroof and electric front windows are unusual for the early GTi

thanks!!

yeah they are in quite good condition, some rust points, but nothing serious, despite they have past many years stopped in the street, 11 the white and 5 the red one. They both were full of water under the dashboard insulation, but not rusted luckily.

wish they had sunroof haha, both have electric windows, and some other early GTI`s I have seen here had also, I thought all the GTIs had electric as standard...

Welcome Joanes

I editted your post so the photos show. Just put " [IMG] " at the start of each photo link and " [\IMG] " at the end.

Maybe one day drive to UK for a meet called Pride of Longbridge in April?

Welcome to metropower!
My white SPI GTI looks exacly like yours!

I visited San Sebastian last year and liked the pintxos a lot!
A city with two beaches, one for surfing and one for swimming? Perfect!

Might it be a euro-modell thing to have the electric windows?

I didnt knew anything about the pryde of longbridge, sounds very interesting! maybe this year will not be possible as both the sd1 and the 114 have quite work till they are in good condition, also with the thing that would be a long journey from here, but for the next year could be

happy you like it!! only needs a warmer water haha

could be, I have been looking for some old adverts on here, about 10 spi gti, all of them with no sunroof and electric windows
