Hi all,

I noticed the breather pipe from the neck of the tank has perished, so have bought a replacement. I took the rear card out, and it looks like 2 pipes in there have perished:

Now the green pipe is the new pipe coming off the filler neck, but I'm not sure where to connect it to after that, as the old pipes had pretty much fallen apart.

I've checked the haynes manual, but it's a bit vague.

Can anyone help please?

I believe there is supposed to be a small length of tube laying inside the inner wing making a sort of like a water trap bellow the sink and then it is supposed to exit out the small hole in the top of the fuel filler bowl where you have a small length of black tube going nowhere.

the other two pipes you are holding in your hand that is stuck together might be for water from the sunroof.

I think that's why I'm getting confused, there's 3 pipes, but only 2 holes. One has to be for the breather on the fuel tank neck.
If the 2 black ones are jut water drainage, then it's not such a drama. I don't have a sunroof, so not sure what they could be for!

just pull the small one out that goes into the fuel filler bowl and put your green one through or connect the two.

Blown up the two black tubes, and it sounds like the air is coming out around the rear passenger window rubber. Could they be the drainage you mentioned?

I believe they are drainage tubes but don't know from where then.

Thanks for the help. I suppose I could tip some water over the outside of the car and see if any water comes through! Breather pipe for the petrol tank neck is now sorted, so at least I won't get fumed out just sitting in the car.

Sorted! It's actually one pipe! It's all the breather. It goes up through the arch, up the back of the B pillar, loops back down and out. So what looks like 3 pipes, was actually just the one.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

aaah I knew there was supposed to be a loop in there, but my loop just lays in the inner wing.

Can you please post a pic of the final setup?

My Mk2 has done the same thing...is the green pipe you have used PVC?

Thanks.

Its impossible to get it all in one photo unfortunately. But basically, if you take the rear door card off, and look up the B pilar, grab hold of what looks like 2 hoses, but is infact one and pull it down. It's actually realy simple, but when it was all perished and in pieces was a right head scratcher!

I'll try and take a decent photo tomorrow, or several if it makes it clearer.

The hose is off ebay for about £3, was a breather pipe for pit bikes, but does the job nicely. The original hose has a one way valve on it when it goes up the B pillar, which was in good condition, so all I did was cut away the perished hose from it, and attatched the snot green one in it's place.

The one in my MK2 Turbo one has perished significantly, I haven't really been able to decide it's purpose and or the check valve configuration or configuration in general.

More pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Or is this only on the 90-98 models im not sure.

Excuse the dodgy drawing, but should be easily enough to understand! Hope it helps.
