I havent seen a thread with this so thought i would add it. Not sure if you are all aware but there is a new type gasket available for the k series engine to hopefully help the Head gasket issues.

I went to Landrover and asked for the upgraded head gasket. They gave me the one on the right ( i didnt check when they gave it to me in the box). This is the revised OLD gasket. I called them to tell them that this was the old style but They couldnt sell me the new gasket as they are on back order, but my local motor factors are stocking them by payen.

Here are the pictures so you know if you have the uprated one or not.

Old one is the silver one with red/orange silicon bead around it (RIGHT)
New one is a triple layer gasket with metal in the middle and full silicon sheets over it (LEFT)

Hope that helps so you dont get fobbed off like they tried doing with me

How much was the new style payen gasket Sacha?

Head gasket is failed on the VVC - it's leaking out of the block above the alternator!

I've been told though that using this new style gasket will require a New Oil Rail due to different thickness.

Nope the new oil rail is just for strength issues and will not effect the block height or head bolt thread depths in any way

If the gasket was a different thickness there would be issues with compression values.

Adrian is that 100% sure ? Not that I doubt it just that before I get a new set for mine I would like to be 100% sure on what parts are needed to do the job.

Thanks,

Alex
