Well, having run myself into stupid amounts of debt ive decided that cars can stop rinsing me of all my money and go on the back burner for a while, cutting my car collection down big time and going to focus on just getting out of debt, this coupled with the metro insurance going fooking spastic (admiral insured it, then called me a week later to tell me the advisor that spoke to me was wrong and they dont cover engine swaps, so parked that up and bought this)

History of the car, ive known it for a while, done a fair bit of work on it, previous owner wanted brand new genuine top mounts and new coilovers, so did all that for him, he then wanted a new company car and this had a slight misfire so I bought it off him for alot less than even I expected to pay

Its a very clean 97 5 door black GTi, he was OCD about cleaning cars and it shows, very very clean everywhere ive looked so far.

Misfire was fixed by replacing the coil, also did the dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads, plugs and a quick oil service.

Opened the airbox, found a K&N panel, winner.

Fitted my JVC headunit in it, front speakers didnt work, noticed they were upgraded focal components with seperate tweeters, opened the back doors, same again but they were working fine, ripped the dash apart found out it was previously amped front speakers and they had just cabletied the wiring up, so re-wired it so they are running off the headunit but can always change that again now the sound system is actually suprisingly good.

Drives buetifully, doesnt need money spunking on it left right and centre and stops the BS at work (starting a new job tomorrow and want to set a good impression instead of having to explain why I drive a metro...)

Few hours after I got it -

Headunit in -

Blacked out badges -

Parked up at the flat, have since fitted the black GTi badge but might ditch it again -

Debadged back and blacked out VW -

Only real plans are some wheel spacers and do the wheels in anthracite or black...

If I could get a sub £500 insurance quote for it I would, admiral said pre engine conversion they would happily insure it for £410, do the engine conversion, call them on the sunday to be told the representative I spoke to must of been mistaken and they dont cover engine swaps, called adrian flux, £1200, flux direct, £1500, brent acre did an £890 quote but thats still more than I want to pay to drive a metro (my 200sx with all mods declared was £600 ffs)

Wouldnt entertain a golf GTi after a mk2.

Find the mk3's slow and boring, and same as the mk4's,even the turbo's.
Then the rest are to big and heavy

Id have another mk1 or 2 anyday

Well, lets put it this way, its not quick by any means, but its got torque and pulls quite happily, coming from 300bhp 200sx's and b20 civics its not quick, but for what I need at the moment it fits the bill.

Neither would I, but beggers cant be choosers and this is an easy way of saving money as its a car im frankly not keen to spend stupid money on, but it drives nicely and its practical enough

Horses for courses, with the mileage I do I need insurance to be cheap because I pay so much out in fuel my insurance cant be too much or I cant make ends meet.

Aye, when/if money allows i'll get some BBS rep's, but for now they will do, genuine borbets, might do them in black for now to make them stand out less.

Whole idea is not to spend money on this, first thing I did when I got home was went on wheel whores and edition38 to see if there were any BBS's for sale, then remembered what the car is there for, to be cheap.

Got some bits thru the post so decided to fit 'em tonight

First of all legal UK pressed metal plates, fit them to all of my cars, standard procedure really.

Before -

After -

Then fitted my smoked side repeaters -

And then this happened -

Resulting in this -

Next, black wheels and joey mod headlights

Looking good Freddie.
I was never a fan of MK3's until I got mine. Still not massively keen on them but they're not as bad as I used to think they were. Im starting to love mine.

Same, I always shunned em on, but having worked on this one before buying it, and driving it around to bed stuff in it kinda made me think "hmm, actually quite nice" then when he offered it to me I just had to say yes as its one of the cleaner examples.

Doing the headlights next saturday with any luck, might fit the spacers tonight as its still sunny...

Hopefully my VR6 splitter will arrive tomorrow...

Need to take the plastic arches off and trim them and roll the metal archs so I can wind the coilovers down a bit...
