ZR 160 box is a 'C' 1st and 2nd, and the rest is BRM (0.848 5th), on a 3.9, will be too low,
go for a 'C' 5th (0.765) on a 3.9 and work back for the best spaced ratios.

Could i use a r200 diesel 5th?

Or is 0.765 the lowest 5th? I have a c4 in my car atm

The BRM has the lowest 5th at 0.848), You have a 4.2 final drive atm (that is the '4' bit in 'C4')
('C6' has the same gear cluster, but a 3.9 final drive).
I think the ZR 160 has a 4.2 (G4 ratios). A diesel 5th will be too tall (0.645 I think), plus its
harder to get the other ratios to suit unless you fit a diesel box (with the bell housing changed)
Plus I think diesel boxes are uprate, so it complicates converting, and the ratios are wide spaced
to suit the torque of a diesel engine. A std MGF/TF/ZR 1800 non VVC box (C6 ratios) and bang in a
LSD type A or B is the way to go, dont forget that a ZR 1800 box will have the cable clutch arm,
the MGF/TF will have the hydraulic arm, just something else to source for the conversion.

So a c6 box has 3.9fd and the best option is to put the diff in that, ok should i build the brm ratios with a standard diff for a spare?

Brm box, taking the 3.9fd off the diff..

Next box to come apart is the zr160, i just want to count the crownwheel teeth to check it is a vvc box, fingers crossed its a c6 lol

Just pulled the 'zr160' box apart and it has 63 teeth on the crownwheel same as the brm one, does this mean its a 3.9 final drive and most likely to be a c6 box?

Will be great if it is!

Divide the no of teeth on the crownwheel by the no of teeth on the pinion. That should give the fd ratio. Hope it is a c6 bud, saves forking out on another box. Gets confusing dont it thinking about different gear ratios all day. Lol

It was 15 on the pinion so 4.2

The brm pinion is 16 so 3.9 so do these box's both use the same 63 tooth crownwheels or are they a different pattern..

Has anyone got a 135bhp spec box or a none vvc one they want to sell?
, i have looked at charts and rover 45 1.8 has 3.9fd

C6bm is whats in a 1800 petrol r45, it looks to have better ratios

It might not be!!, I've just looked at your ratio list, (easier when its all in front of you!!), if it was me, I'd fit the BRM
1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and a 0.765 5th with the 3,9 final drive.
What you now have is the same box, but with a slightly lower 1st and 2nd.

Im to use all brm stuff but stick the c6 5th in.. so that will be one of the best ratio sets ?
Thanks for the info as always

edit looking at the chart again the c4 5th is the one i will use to try and keep a good complete c6 box as a spare

impatience got the better of me again, i collected the c6, ripped it apart and stole 5th which
turned out to be 25 tooth with the brm 5th having 27

So the brm gearset with c6 5th is ready to drop in the casings currently in the car..back to 3.9fd

I have dropped this gearset into my casings but i cant get 5th.
All others are fine, all i have done is pulled 5th out the c6 and put it on the brm tower..also changed the sycro for 5th on the input shaft but somethings not right,

The box has been done and im over the moon with it, i will say that a c4 box with the torsen gives awesome acceleration but thats not whatim after.

I have also fitted a sweet 1.8 solid cam with the vernier and baffled sump.

Sadly i missed out on Donington, but i am now booked in for the 24th november at donny
