'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | As the metro is off the road, I needed something which was comfy for my drive to work and did at the very least, the same mpg as the metro used to get. After searching for a couple of weeks and looking at quite a few cars(some rougher than others) I settled on this: For a size comparison next to my dads RR: The car is a 1999 Vitesse Sport, only 58 left on the road and has the 200bhp T series turbo with LSD and electric everything including climate control and sunroof! Costs me £600 a year insurance and is comfy enough for work as well as having a nice turn of pace when needed.

'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | Cheers for the positive comments, its a good combination of comfort and performance with economy which I can deal with atm... Compared to the metro, well... It is not as fast off the mark but once rolling the metro would struggle around 70+ and the Vitty has a 150mph top speed. Handling, the vitty is more planted overall but can't attack corners quite as quickly as the metro. Comfort, it has everything electric inc sunroof as well as climate control and air con combined with the Recaro seats its a lot nicer place to be for any length of time compared to the metro which is good for a blast but not really suited imo to larger milages like what I am doing daily now. Oh and the inside of a metro could fit into the boot of the vitty its that big!

Had one years ago, and loved it. Clutch went after messing about, and i just left it up the mountain. Went back and it was a crisp Why not become a sheep and part of the crowed and drop the lump into a ZR? Fastest car around then. Well so they say on .org

Well so they say on .org Surely the 800 is more of an investment right at the start of when its valur will climb soon given its rarity and age? Be a shame to see another go.... ZR t series vs Metro vvc ..... ? What we reckon?

ZR t series vs Metro vvc ..... ? What we reckon? Round a track a metro would hammer a ZR-T but on a straight I wouldn't really want to put my money in either car. Sadly, a lot of the .org lot belive otherwise and wont accept anything other than the ZR-T being the best car in the world ever.

I wasnt serious dai lad, i hate ZR tubs, over rated bags of shit. Driven plenty of them. As for one against a vvc metro i've got proof a metro beats them upto 120. And before anyone says otherwise i was beating my mates with a 28 fmic cookie downpipe etc. They aint all that. Ask a lad on rovertech. I raced his 220 coupe a few times from standing starts where he would pull away but i'd soon catch him and pass it. Then side by side at 50 i'd pull easy upto 120 before i got scared and let him past. But what i will say is a metro on a r65 will pull more on one compared to a pg1. I'll race anyone for v5's who dissagrees

Transport Guru MP Moderator Posts: 4947 Location: Bromley, Kent | CJ, the 'electric everything'....are they still? lol Guess the low point of gravity and power to weight just makes the Metro faster. Like how the 1.8 Elise [k series?] is one of the fastest cars round the Top Gear track.

'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | Everything still does work perfectly, even the air con is cold! I am not too sure about it atm, been using it for over a week and not sure if I can deal with the lack of sense of speed in the car. At 70mph its as quiet and settled as it is at 20mph and doesn't give any acceleration force compared to the metro either.

At 70mph its as quiet and settled as it is at 20mph and doesn't give any acceleration force compared to the metro either. but then that's the beauty of the VVC Metro. if you want a mile cruncher that's comfy, you have to sacrifice the speed and 'force'... Even the T series ZR is quite umcortable, I've been in a few ZRs, 2 with 17" straights, they weren't as comfy as Gerrards with 16"(?) Gridspokes. Speed and handling or comfy and not as fast. orrrrr maybe, spend a few pennies on the 800 making it a little better. Decent induction kit, service, and exhaust. [Is the dual exit one any good for performance?]

drive it like its hired | Just leave it stock dude, keep it nice, should appreciate in value I know what you mean though, even small cars these days feel so much heavier than a metro (because they are!)

'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | Well I put a boost gauge in as a temp thing to see what the car is boosting like and its not able to hold boost steady so that would answer why it isn't pulling as hard as I expected it to. Not really wanting to mod it, if I dont keep it next year then I would like it to be appealing to a wide audience.

Expert Posts: 1228 | That is great. Haven't the late ones got all nicely sorted suspension etc on? 800s are and were great cars. I loved the shape of the fastback, still looked so SD1. Like the 800 Coupe better though.... Like someone says, if you don't do the miles you can get so much car for your £££ with stuff like this I bought some Austin Rover videos at a bootsale a few years ago for 10p each, amongst them was one of Tony Pond driving at standard 827 around the Isle of Man TT course at an average of 100mph. Brilliant. It had a full exhaust system on it and all the sound proofing etc out, that was it I ran a 600Ti for a time and really did not like it. Beautifully put together and finished though, can see why they put the sh**s up BMW at the time Edited by 100Vi 8/9/2012 10:08 PM

'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | This is the 800 coupe Well the front needs bringing down a little bit but otherwise its not so bad, really smooth and absorbs bumps nicely. Have found the brakes are a bit crap when at motorway speeds and the economy isn't amazing but doing the same route as the metro, the last tank got 26mpg compared to the metro 28mpg due to the traffic etc. Overall, very impressed as it just sailed through the MOT with no advisories and keep getting people coming over and asking about the car and commenting about how good the condition is.
