First of all I own a GTi!!

Last year I saw this come up on eBay and sat watching it for a few days debating on buying it. It was local to me sitting at a nice price on bids with a few days left so I waited till the last 15minutes of the auction and decided not to buy it as it went to £400 and I didn't really have the funds directly available or time for it. I turned to my other half and said 'don't worry I'll have that one day'. Well about 8months later I've got it!! It's far from perfect but what just what I wanted. A white original GTi. It was £200 and my fiancé bought it for my birthday in a couple of weeks ( best present ever!! ) it's got everything except interior, engine and rear spats but the rest is all there. A massive thanks to Sean (R100_vvc) for helping with getting it back home. Martin (Beany) for selling it to me at a good price and of course my fiancé for buying it! The reason for the name Peddles is because it will be in memory for my mum who passed away in February. She loved my 2nd white one and said it was the best one I had and the fact I was always on the driveway playing with cars. So I'll have to make this one 10x better.

Once back I want to get all the mud off it as the owner before Martin used it for rallycross or something and had not clean it since it came off the road in 2008! The underneath was caked in so I got the jet wash out and it came up very good. Both arches will need doing but the floor pans look solid other than a little bit on the drivers side. Overall for what the car was used for and how long it's sat etc its in bloody good condition.

Right the plans, well I plan to do a full rebuild. Half leather recaros front and back and a 160vvc. Wire tuck on the engine bay. New rear quarters ( possibly ). Full respray In The orginal white inside and out and hopefully a nicely tuned vvc. I've already got MPI wheels which I'll be picking up next week as I want this looking original and have the red gta as my fun/track car. I plan to have the car ready for PoL 2016 so thAts the aim but as we all know it could got tits up.

The people want pictures and I've got plenty to start with

Loading up and getting it home

The clean up job

And a few bits I got with it.

That's all for now, I'll do my best to keep it updated as much as possible but I will not rush to get this done I'm going to be taking my time and making it perfect as I want everything spot on with this build.

Found a hole in the floor pan as thought might happen and engine bay is now stripped ready to start on prep work for welding

good luck with the project. I see the car has a lot of good sides but also quite a bit of work left

That's in remarkable condition! Looks like it was heavily wax protected very early in its lifetime judging by the under floor. A very good base to start with as it's 'original' condition rather than plated and filled to high heaven. Not what you would expect to find!

For its age and what it was used for its very good. I've starting stripping back the old factory sealant stuff and uncovered a bit more rust so far only 7 areas need welding which I'm happy with
I count myself lucky with this one

Looks like this GTI decied to take note of its VGC very good condition number plate, hence for a GTi looks rather solid and no previous patch work!!
Hope to see it back on the road soon!

No previous welding had been done which is good. Currently saving for a welder so not doing anything to it ATM but looking for around 2 years on this build

Cars now fully stripped and the welder has been bought so can now start getting work done. Cars been moved as I build the garage for it so it can be dry stored

Been a while since a update.
Bought some engine stands (1000lbs each) and converted them into a kind of spit thing. Helps a lot with welding mainly and getting the underneath sorted. I have been welding on the car but has taken a while to get to grips with it.

Had to leave the inside like this until I can pick up some more gas and wire but now got the hang of it so shouldn't take long to work through it and get the welding done!

Done a few more bits of welding
Drivers side floor pan is now done and now started on the rear aiming to get all the major areas out the way first
