Hi all,

Some of you will remember my project from a couple of years ago. It's a Rover 114GSi automatic which I got when I had just turned 17.

The car, after 3 years, is finally getting somewhere close to completion. After a conversion to a manual and MPI, and also some bodywork.

I can't wait to drive the car, it's been a long time coming and I really couldn't be without it.

I am also rebuilding a Mini with my partner, which has been another 3 years project. At the moment that's taking most of our attention, but in a couple of months they will both be completed!

Heres a very short timeline of my car over the last few years.

Here is a couple of the Ebay photos:

And some photos as it progressed:

And then, this happened:

Due to personal circumstance, it sat for a year like that in all weather. It had a tarp, but that didn't stop the water. Luckily I caught it just in time and everything has cleaned up nicely.

I visited it from time to time

But still, no progress...

Until I got a new job and then had the money to get her going again!

So she got moved to my new garage and totally stripped down to check for any rust that needed repairing. I got away quite lightly, with only the door jam striker (Never seen them go there before...) and drivers side arch needing work.

And then whilst she sat for a few months, and I collected a few parts and saved for the work to be done, I got myself a little Metro 1.4Li which I'd known locally for a while. I payed £150 for it, and then gave it the work it needed and sold it on, the money I got for it payed for my driving lessons and test, which I passed first time

and a few days before she went After a lot of love and polishing. She was sadly written off after a few weeks The people that bought her saw her on Gumtree, strangely enough, they're the people I bought my 114GSI off 3 years ago!

That almost brings us up to date. I could post so many more photos along the way, but I'm sure it'll bore you all.

I've bought a few nice parts for the GSI, mainly Rover factory extras, bits like A and B pillar trims, Mk3 GSi door cappings, headlamp protectors etc.

The interior is filthy, but it'll tidy up well.

I bought these 14x6 Wolfrace wheels :D :D

This will bring us basically up to do with a lot of inbetween parts skipped out, but.

And that's it thus far. Just gotta bolt it all back together and sort out the panel gaps etc and she'll be good to go! Cannot wait :D

Heres a few photos, before, mid and after of my boyfriends Mini for those interested too :D

We crashed it, which shifted the front end 3" sideways and totally bent the shell. It's been a long and arduous year and summer, but it's coming together now :D :D :D

all bent

Fixed

We've just taken the engine out again, since we took it for an MOT to find the couple of seals we didnt replace during the whole engine rebuild, are the ones that are leaking (diff) :nono:

But we'll be going everywhere together to shows, so look out for us :D

That's all! If you got this far well done ^^ I'll update often now that things are starting to come together

Cheers chaps.

The paint job was done by a Mini friend in his barn. The finish looks as good as factory which I'm really pleased with

I've just been working away since getting her home, done a few solid days just cleaning. Claying, waxing, polishing and washing to get her back up to standard! and a thorough interior clean.

Sean is coming tonight to pump her up. I need to fit my new exhaust manifold which I'll get round to soon, buy a backbox/alternator/timing kit and I'll be good for the MOT after 3 years!

A couple of pictures from before I got her home

This is why I hate dealers that use screws for license plates!

so we got her home

And clean

And a little before and after of the interior

There are a few more jobs to do. I have to finish repainting my door handles. I'm using two front handles from my old 1.4Li for sentimental sake and am repainting my rear spoiler, it's in red primer at the moment.

I tried my wheels on

They should look lovely when I get some tyres.

That's all for now folks. Other than a little freshen up to lose the damp smell!

Thank you mate! And yeah that little Li was absolutely awesome. It has a charm to it that the Mk4 just doesn't. I'd love another Mk3 soon, it'd have to be an unmolested one like that though. It was used to nip to the shops every few days by an old retired man who also had a Frogeye sprite and MGB projects.

So I bought everything I need to finish her off with the help of paypal

Simon is off to America to work at a Mini garage in CA for a month in June, which will be absolutely awesome. I'm going to Holland to visit my dutch friends and do a Mini event on one of the days so that is my new deadline. July 1st the car needs to be MOT'd, Tax'd and insured. May sound easy but Simons deadline is L2b, and heres a look at the current state of his car

All in good time. I've also bought a sportex cat back, which I know will be loud, we'll see how long I last with it, I'm young enough and stupid enough to get away with it for now! and a brand new alternator

So she had her MOT the other day, only advisory was 'Item removed from drivers view prior to test' which was one of my magic trees so an excellent result!

It was nerve racking after a 3 year rebuild, but all went perfectly.

And I got bored

How she sits now

AND the Mini is as good as done for now! time to enjoy them both this summer

Thanks for looking

Craig
