Few more bits done, when i picked up the GTi body kit it was in a poor state. The side skirts had about 40 layers of hammerite on which was a massive bitch to sand. They were also cracked in various different places and one skirt had been sawed through. However after a bit of fibreglass and filler they are like new again Got them in primer and will do a second coat tomorrow if i get time. Have also made a start on the rear spats

Bit of an update, been keeping an eye out for a vvc engine for a while now when this one came up for sale fairly close to me for a price i couldnt refuse. Started the strip down as i want to replace the head gasket, cam belts, water pump etc just for peace of mind Also thought id treat myself to some new yoko A539's (185/55/14) for summer as the ones on at the moment are getting a bit low.

Been really busy with work these past few months so haven't had much time to work on the car. The MOT was coming up and i knew it would fail on the handbrake and reverse light as they both didn't work. I bought myself a new cable and fitted that, was a nightmare but i got there in the end. Whilst doing the handbrake decided i may as well fit new brake shoes as they were getting a bit low. Changed the reverse light switch and it flew through the MOT with no advisories! To celebrate i painted and fitted my anti roll bar!

old and new cable

Just a pic from POL

Made a new parcel shelf with some more speakers as the old one was ruined. Also stripped pretty much everything off of my old metro and then it was sent for scrap.

Little update, hit a milestone the other day!

Im now on borrowed time before my headgasket goes! Also picked up a diesel radiator at the bargin price of £25, came with both fans from a 115 with 16,000 miles on it. Painted the top metal hose to make it look slightly better.

Had a productive weekend! got the new radiator fitted and working. Left the main fan wired up to the ecu and placed a switch in the dashboard for the front fan. Also getting there with the vvc. Painted the throttle body black and reassembled the inlet manifold. Cleaned the engine up a bit, came up pretty nice but i gave it quick lick of paint anyway. Also tested my new 82 degree thermostat!

More progress! Got the paint out again for my rear anti roll bar. Also changed the bushes before i fitted it. Bought myself a timing belt kit and a new clutch for the vvc. Got the front belt and tensioner fitted today and will hopefully get some more done over the weekend. I'm aiming to have the engine in before POL however i am cutting it a bit fine!

Big update! i now have vvc power! was quite surprised how easy the conversion was. i had a loom made by Adrian which was of fantastic quality, just plug and play. Only had a few hiccups on the way which were soon sorted! (bending the gear linkage taking the engine out!)

The power from the vvc is really quite impressive, however it has developed a misfire every now and again. I changed the coils which seems to have helped so it now runs a lot better. While the old engine was out i gave the engine bay a spruce up by painting it black, it was white which just looked untidy. Changed the oil so its now had a complete service. Very happy to have it all up and running in time for POL.
