So....went to a local garage and was pleased to find that they had an elderly Liquid Levers machine knocking around, and were willing to have a go at pumping up my sagging Metro (very sagging). The metal "caps" came off with some persuasion and the hose was attached. The valve was switched on and my Metro fell by about an inch. The mechanic started to pump...and the seal on the pumping piston broke resulting in green gunge all over the floor. That was the end of that but at least both sides are now sagging equally - and I've got plastic caps instead of difficult-to-remove metal ones. It is said that the suspension gets harder as the gas seeps out - and most of mine has. Why don't people pump pressurised gas into the valves rather than fluid? I guess if this were possible, people would be doing it. Just went out for a razz about in my Metro - fun as usual but worth keeping a look out as my ground clearance is Ferrari-like.

be careful, running the car too low can damage the hydragas elements, so although fun it might be with a low car I suggest getting it pumped up

there are gas in the hydragas elements only you cannot fill it up. the gas is the spring of the element. fluid is used because it is kind of the shock-absorber of the hydragss element with the fluid being pressed through a valve.

There are some people in Shropshire that can refurbish your spheres and refill the previously untouchable Nitrogen in them and weld in a shrader valve.

I could do that. In exchange for a pump up I could bring a case of beer!
