thats an impressive unit! Fair play with the work gone into renovating it.

Also a bit of outside land is always a bonus to testing cars that that havn't been MOT'd yet.

Think the most we will have are some lorry style axle stands I think, or some home made side lift or something. Haven't really checked out the options.

The slab was left to dry for a couple of weeks, first coat was mixed with 10% white spirits, 2nd coat was neat. No primer, it's an oil based paint so requires less prep I believe? I assume you have some experience in this area?! First coat once fully dry seemed pretty tough

My concrete garage floor paint has started to lift after about 12 monts but it certainly wasn't as thickly laid as yours so you should be ok lol

totally transformed the place, what are you doing to the tro while shes there?

Just the little stuff left to do, then string the car and take it on a trackday or two. I will be for sale this spring/summer once its up to the standard I want

Cheers bud, lots more going on in the background too. We probably wont use the land too much apart from parking if we have visitors Not planning on leaving cars outside etc

Cheers for the info, I don't think its fully cured yet. It is certainly dry, but i suspect its still a little softer then when its cured fully. Only certain areas will see a large volume of traffic, like where we store the jacks, by the bench or the large entrance.

Thanks guys

We got lucky really, I was browsing Rightmove for no apparent reason and saw a couple of cheap units at this place. Told a couple of mates who seemed keen so we went to look. Turned out they weren't big enough and the lady offered us this instead.

Took some deciding on, initial expense for the floor etc and negotiating rental terms but it seems to have worked out nicely so far

I'm hoping there will be enough people up for a spannering/bbq/drinking session sometime this summer

There are a few of us southerners, wack up a thread neaer the time. Really jealous of your unit. I thought me and Liam got lucky with garage and a half we found. lol

Painting the ceiling white is brilliant for exta light
and painting the floor makes all the difference when it comes time to sweep up.
-good work

So far its only the vertical bits that have been painted, we have started stapling insulation to the sloped roof - not 100% we will keep it that way yet. Going to finish the painting tonight and we need more strip lights either way

Dover is 1Hr 20 mins away, not too bad I guess!

I'm not allowed there on weekends if I go during the week I always try and go when there is gonna be at least two of us, doing the workshop DIY is boring alone. Once we actually start working on the cars that may change.

We have been for a few hours this week boarding up windows and insulating:

Peeking out from under cover:

I may have too many wheels?

And a couple of random shots:

They are mate. The car sits a bit too low on these so I think he is going up to 17" to maintain the tyre-arch gap but give some more ground clearance

So there was one part of the building left that wasn't solid...

The bit behind the rotten chipboard was carpet.

So we concreted in a new centre post and built the wall:

Oh yeah we did that window too:

Inside the wall:

All secure and insulated up now.

We also seem to have a sweet tractor:

An example of the two extremes of cars we are into:

Few more windows to board up, improve security of the small front door, bit of electrical stuff to sort (we have a new consumer unit, all new wiring to lights and all new wiring and plugs installed already), and we will empty and sort out a small outside building for storage too.

After all this I can start getting the GTi ready for PoL

More progress!

Wiring finished (nice to have a new fusebox with RCD protection rather than the twisted wire fuses we had before:

The side wall has all the windows boarded and insulated:

The 4th and final car has moved in (fiesta was just chilling for the evening):

It's been pretty cold here but the insulation has helped massively:

Couldn't resist sizing up a couple of wheels:

No way there are going on the rear with the current tyres!

Got it running yet?

What the tractor or the metro?

The metro has had arch liners on one side and the new IACV fitted, runs like a dream

Might be finished in a couple of weeks

Ok so now its less of a workshop refurb... Just some pics of the latest happenings

One of my wheel piles:

And our compressor:

James finally doing something to his Westfield:

Phil finding rust on his S14:

Before the S13 went pop

Shitty BMW with problems:

My car (the only working one at the moment) all tucked up:

More rusty S14:

A Lovely evening to leave the unit:

Oops, it went pop:

This beast came in handy:

Back to the poorly CA18, pistons look good...

Couple of weird marks on piston number 3:

Lets check the gasket...

Thats that mystery solved then, its munched part of the fire ring.

Its about time the Lexus got some loving, so I threw some new wheels on with 15mm spacers on the front, still need to get some 25mm for the back:

Time to relax after a hard few weeks (for the others, I've not had much to do )
