Location: Isle of Wight | I finally got my R100 VVC conversion moving yesterday, I've previously opened and closed the bonnet with the cable/latch mechanism working 100's of times and as soon as I moved the car the latch got stuck!?
The lever in the drivers well is slack like the latch is open but the latch under the bonnet wont budge. Any suggestions on how to get under the bonnet please?
Thanks

Location: Dudley, Midlands | If the cable hasn't snapped / come off, and it is just jammed while catch is open,
getting a mate to pull the handle while you manhandle the bonnet should do it.
Have you moved the rad forward, could be caught on that?
Should mean you can reach up from underneath and lever it over with a screwdriver.
Other option is going in through the grille. |

Location: Isle of Wight | Thanks Marv!
I've got an MGF rad in and had problems with the mech catching but as I said before, it has worked for months while laid up.
I think a poke about with a screwdriver may be in order.

Location: Gloucester | also a worthy trick is to remove the catch cable shield.
if the cable snaps you (on a cold engine) put your arm up between the radiator and exhuast and pull the cable to up the bonnet.
Rover became aware of this and in 1993 K reg bolted a shield plate to prevent this but now 20 years on with tired old bonnet catch cables they can snap and leave you unable to open the bonnet! |
