Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Took the engine out last night so I can swap the gearbox for a 111s one. Also cut the tops off the hydragas mounts on the subframe as no longer required, it will allow the air to get out of the engine bay easier through the cut outs in the wings. Next task with the engine out is to weld in the strut braces made from box section. I've also been told my new front bumper should be here this weekend Edited by jasonr 24/3/2010 3:08 AM

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Tonight I've started fabricating the front strut brace, just need to weld in the central fixing plate, which is tacked in at the moment. I've welded nuts on the back of the central plate so it's removable. I will put the fuel filter mount onto the o/s leg of the brace. I obviously have to trim the plate in the middle down to the size of the central fixing plate. It will all be bolted to the chassis with m8 bolts. I've also fabricated the air ducting plate for the wing

Just waiting for abit of money to get turrets ( I did make some at college, but used a 114 to make a template thn when I went to put them in my gti they seemed completely wrong! ) and will be going for coilovers. How have you fixed the bottom of the coilovers on the rear? Strut brace is looking good.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Was it a two door or 4 door? They are slightly different at the back I think due to the rear door.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Pulled the Elise 111s gearbox apart yesterday and fitted the ATB Diff. Just need to get some gasket sealant so I can put it back together fully.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Gearbox is now back together and fitted to the engine, hydraulic clutch slave cylinder fitted with all the brackets and fitted the aux. electric water pump, for keeping the coolant flowing with the engine off. Also changed the cambelt today and put the engine back in the car ;D.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Today, I finished getting the engine fitted. Got the thermostatic sandwich plate fitted for the oil cooler and worked out where to mount the oil cooler. Once I'd worked it out, I welded some tabs onto where the oil coolers was going to be fitted. I then put rivnuts in and cut up some rubber hose to space the oil cooler away from the fixing point. I'm waiting on another length of braided hose before I can final fit the oil cooler.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Got the oil cooler all plumbed in and the engine bay all back together this week. Also made up some brackets to mount the bumper, although I've not finished with the bumper mounting. I'm using slide catches to secure it, I've got two on the slam panel as well.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Well seeing as I should have been in Florida since last friday I went down to the workshop today before going back to work tomorrow and cancelling the rest of my leave :'(. Anyway got the brackets for the slide catches made today and all of them are now fitted to the front bumper. Made and fitted some extension to the bumper to force the air up over the wheel arch and made the splitter from 6mm ply. Just got to work out where I'm going to fit the air ducts for the front brakes ???.

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Got the front bumper finished this weekend and the wings and bonnet painted as well. I have the ram intakes for the brake cooling also fitted into the bumper after I managed to find a route to run them to the front brakes, I've also fitted some 24 led light strips into the front bumper as well. I'm quite pleased with the results .

Additonally, ensure you shim the ATB differential correctly to prevent excessive endfloat, this needs to be done by selecting the correct circlip shim in the topcase. Regards Lee

Regards Lee Cheers Lee, I've dropped the diff in with the steel caged bearings it came with as it was. When I put the gearbox back together I didn't take the reverse switch out either as I didn't realise you had to. Can't be arsed going down tonight as it's pissed me off, so I will go down tomorrow and pull it apart. Which bit is the interlock mechanism? jason
