Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | About time i started a journal for this, its my new race car for next year. Its a 1.1 metro quest carb, henley blue and the most basic of basic it doesnt even have a radio or glove box! I picked it up off ebay for £400. To be fair when i got it home it seemed way too good to tun into a racer but i did anyway because thats just how i roll. Here are some pictures from the day i picked it up.... Sorry about the poor quality phone pictures btw Anyway that was a few weeks ago now so i've got it all stipped down and its on the spit roast so i can clean up the underneath and make a start on the modifacations...

Hopefully my dad will be racing it providing he passes his ards test. Although if this one isn't done in time then I'll be racing it again next year. Can you believe next year will be it's 4th season although it only did 2 races back in 2009

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | Yeah the spit was easy to make, i just bolted it to where the reinforcement bracket went at the front and to where the rear bumper bolts onto at the back, then just made up the stands with some old steel i had lying around. Its a little top heavy but its still easy enough to turn. i just hold it where i want it with a bit of wood or the arms from the ramp. Oh and jack i cant disclose top secret info like that, you'll have to wait and see

Expert Posts: 8490 Location: Midlands | This car is an amazing find Tom! How many miles? Sub 20k at a guess and doesn't look like its been anywhere near a salted road lol!! The rear turrets...are these Metro challenge spec? Have you got measurements as to where you've fitted them in? Looking at mine it would seem there is no real determined position to weld them in at

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | Sorry i thought i had put the milage in my fist post. It has done 24k but the guy who i got it from was a gardner, he got it in exchange for clearing this old ladys garden. he said her husband bought it new but died a few years after so its just been sat in the garage ever since, he blew the tires up and took it for an mot. Needless to say it went straight through so still has 12 months test. I drove it home, it went brilliant, really nippy! The rear turrets are just ones i made myself, cout a hole out of the rear arches and floded a flange inwards so that i could spotweld a turret in, the tops are 3mm so that i can mount the rollcage onto the top. I have mounted them in the center line of the wheel so i can make up a new longer stub axle and fix the damper to that. Edited by Tom Sanderson 18/12/2011 11:37 AM

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | AdrianSi - 21/12/2011 11:47 AM Good work! Fuel pump access panel i see there Still super solid after removing the stone protection? There is a small hole behind the bracket that hold on the rear brake flexi hose to the body, which isnt a problem because i am going to weld a reinforcement plate there so that i can have the flexi hose going straight into the floor to run the brake lines inside (if that makes sence) Other than that its rot free, easily the best shell i have seen, i feel more and more guilty about racing it! lol

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | Well seems theres no welding to do, i thought i'd make a start on the rollcage, My sealy pipe bender just decided to kink the pipe so i had to make one myself, (there plenty of videos on youtube about how to make your own) I used the former from the sealy one. I am really pleased with the results, it looks a bit heath robinson but works perfectly! here are the results...

Expert Posts: 8490 Location: Midlands | Loving your work there! That bend looks awesome! Can you make your own cage then and FIA approve it?
