New user Posts: 21 Location: Teesside, North East UK | Got a bit of a puzzling problem with me Metro 100 Ascot Edition. On the passenger side, from around under the glovebox / air vent area, i'm getting a water leak, it's rain water, not coolant or anything. Thing is it doesn't leak when it rains, say for instance after a heavy shower i get in the car, there's no puddle in the footwell, and the water only appears after i start driving. I thought it was related to the ventilation system because it seemed as soon as i turned on the heater water would drip down, or maybe when it rained through the vent in the bonnet maybe somehow the ventilation system was taking in water, but i don't think it's that. I've had alook and feel around the glovebox and felt behind some of the facia and i can't feel any damp patches. But the rain is definately collecting somewhere, and is leaking out as soon as i turn hard enough for it to drip down. I'm just plain baffled, cheers for any input

Regular Posts: 113 | Are you sure that the water isn't collecting in the heater box? Check the drain under the bonnet. Next time it rains put some cling film over the vent grille under the bonnet to see if that stops it.

Expert Posts: 8490 Location: Midlands | Yep...this would appear to be quite a common problem...i found out this with my diesel which has no sunroof. It was after i welded the floor up and checked for water leaks...kept getting a puddle of water in the passenger footwell. Took the rubber cap off the blower box drain and found that to be blocked solid. So i took that off and filed it under garbage...tried it spraying water on it again but still it leaked...if you look at the construction of the box you will see that its made up in two halves, sandwiching the motor in-place. The water was leaking in through the split and then through the heater intake inside the car like the problems found in this thread. To remody the problem i took the heater box assembly out...took it appart and then reassembeld it using a bead of sealant ('tiger seal' is what i used which avout the best) around the join. I also drilled some additional water release holes in the base of the heater box to prevent a build up of water. I then put the blower box back in the car with another bead of sealant to prevent chance of water ingress
