Bought this the other day off a guy in Leyland.

Spotted it on Ebay so i decided to have a look at it and ended up making him an offer on it. The engine was siezed somehow, it has no tax or mot and is generally quite scruffy and unloved. However it has very little rust, has a new exhaust, clutch and door lock set and is fairly complete with 75k miles. At some point in it's life it was a learner car as it has dual controls. I will be removing these though.

I spent the last few nights getting it running again. Discovered whoever did the clutch managed to lock the flywheel up by using bolts that were too long for the clutch housing. So it runs now although it will not idle steady and doesn't rev cleanly. Engine will be coming out soon for a service anyway but i'm just glad it sort of runs!

Plan is to tidy it up maybe respray a few of the panels and then get it back on the road and use it.

Nice buy! That's a 998 exhaust btw so that won't help running issues, especially when pressing on.

How can you tell thats a 998 exhaust? Is it because the end does not have the 'slash' shape? I've seen a few 1275cc with that style of tail pipe, even mine has it.

I thought it might have been as it does look like a very small bore for a 1275. Only sold my full janspeed exhaust last week too as i didn't think i'd ever need it ffs. Might buy a full system from maniflow in the future though.

Very nice MG!
Any work need doing to it or is it on the road? looks well on the white alloys with the turbo kit.

David's right its not a MG exhaust, I think some of the lower spec 1275's also got the same exhaust as the 998.

It needs a bit of work to get it running right. The clutch is supposedly new but it doesn't disengage fully. You can start the engine in gear with clutch disengaged and it tries to move so something not right. As far as i can see there is no adjustment on the cable unless someone knows how? It also burns a bit of oil and compression readings are all over the place so it may be time for a rebuild. Oil pressure is good though.

Body is a bit rough, very little rust from what i can see though but it has dents and scratches all over so i might respray it.
