Location: North Wales | If you look at item 4 on the drawing, it is just the thin tube coming from the top of the piston that needs oil in it. Don't fill the whole top half of the carb up . If you remove the piston damper and then push it back in, so long as there is a firm resistance to the damper being pushed in, the oil level is ok. The fault you have will not be caused by low dashpot oil, anyway. Low dashpot oil just causes a flatspot on acceleration, it will not cause it to cut out when you come to a stop.
Is the problem occuring once the engine has warmed up (and after you have closed the choke), or does it happen when still cold and the choke on? How many miles has the car done? The chances are that the carb is in need of a full overhaul. The kit cost about £50. In my opinion it is fairly pointless putting a used, unknown carb from a scrap yard on your car as it may just have the same problem, and the cheap kit that just has new gaskets and o-rings in it is pointless. It needs a new jet and needle at the same time. Can the timing be adjusted on the K series carb engine? If so, check this out as well. |
