Incidently, the MK3 GTa 1.4 (the non-SE one) and the Si were factory fitted with wide steelies with 185 tyres. 5 and 6 spoke alloys usually come with 155 tyres, but 185 can be fitted. 185 section tyres really do make alot more rolling resistance than 155 section tyres. This means lower top speed, slower acceleration and worse petrol consumption. Hence the reason only the GTa, GTi and Si ever got them. Arguably the Si didn't have the power for them and they should have been saved for the 16v cars. This is why I recommend that 1.1 and 1.4 8v owners with alloys go for 165/65 or 175/60 tyres so they don't up the drag too much. No point gaining on the corners if you lose far more on the straights.

Northampton's Finest Posts: 1031 Location: Northampton | I span out the other day on a roundabout in the wet, i had never drove my car with 155/65/13's before being used to my normal 195/45/14's, the funny thing was as i went onto the roundabout i said to my mate, "i wonder how well these drift"... then i found out. after that i found a nice wet carpark... I actually quite like 155/65/13's
