Hello all
I have a driving the metro recently - and I have a problem with the heater inside the car. When I put the heat to the screen and put the blower on three - there is a gently blow from the window vents which is vaguely warm

if I put the facelevel - I get a tornado of cold air..

but all the time my ankle is getting roasted.

I don't think the cables are working the flaps in the heater - as I think one is kinked - and you can hear one of the flsps bouncing around.

I am not relishing the task of taking the fascia out - what else can I check and what alternatives do I have for replacing the heater cables?
regards
Shaun

if you look in the drivers foot well side, to left of the clutch pedal you should be able to see the cables (2) for the heater controls. Look for any kinks in the cables as you may be able to straighten them from there.

Was under the impression that hot air only comes from foot and screen position. cold air only from other.

I'm sure this is normal too.

Hello all,
the cables that operate the flaps - when you move them - the cable - outer sheaf moves but the wire inner moves very little
I cannot see any kinks as such and if i operate the flaps by hand they are free to move.

If I select the screen for hot air - I get very little heat and very little movement of air - it all still seems to come out of the bottom to warm your feet.
I am thinking of biting the bullet - take the facia off and have a proper look

its annoying as I would like to to keep the screen clear

the screen ventilation duct pipes may not be fully inline with the dash vent holes, I had this problem on my K reg.
The face level vents only blow un heated air.

an other problem with these heaters is that the material that is attached to the flaps disintegrate over time. when this happens they loose their ability to guide the air and the air does not get hot, only warm and doesn't fully go where you want it to. I have seen this problem in several a-series heaters. it is not that difficult to take the heater apart and glue on new material.

So it looks like I need to take the heater out - which means the fascia has to come out.
Is it a big job?
as far as I can see - its take the steering wheel off - the black cowling, drop the column off the mountings - remove the cassette storage thingy, disconnect speedo and the screews.
When in my mind I think its a straight forward job - it normally means its not!
