Hello everyone,

I am driving around in an 89 1 litre metro with 210000+ miles on the clock is this a record on this site !!

Its on the original engine and clutch as too.

Not modified I am afraid unlike the cars on this site, I would like to try for the 1/4 million but I don't have the time or space anymore so I suppose it will have to be "re-cycled" unless anyone else is feeling brave.

I wish I had discoverd this site when I had some tough intermittent ignition faults a few years ago.

Welcome to MP

Theres not all moddifed on this site
Get some pictures up of the 1.0 and the speedo reading and I will feature it in the 1.0L section.

I saw a 1.1 in the scrappy with 188k once and a diesel with 170+

It still runs ok but is a little loose now, and it is somewhat tatty on the body, well what do you expect!
We always used Duckhams 10-40 semi-synthetic oil, and changed it regularly the engine has been 100% reliable.

The brakes we put stainless pistons in the calipers when the chrome flaked and maybe 3 sets of seals.

Loads of front wheel and steering bearings etc is this a common wear point ?

I don't have any pics except this one of the odo (I looked at the body today and I am somewhat embarrassed at the state it is in sorry !)

I will attempt to attach the odo picture.

Gary

that is a record for any metro just shows how reliable the a-series is thats why its been used in alot of austins the a-series engine design is about 40 year old i think they used the same engine in the old morris minors just a question for ya how many headgaskets has it gone throw so far

The only head gasket is the one fitted at Longbridge as far as we know car had 38K when we bought it (so probably original)

Bleedin' hell that car must be well looked after to rack up that many miles with that many original parts. Especially the HG.

LLoyd, the A-series is a a fully cast iron engine and a HGF on one of those is unheard of tbh.

far from unheard of tbh. they tend to go between the cylinders more than oil/water ways.

I have changed many a serise 1000cc head gasgets that have went between the bores that allways seems to be the main failure on the engines they never seem to go between the oil or watter ways unles a crap hg has been used even then they normaly blow between the cylenders first 210000 on a tros a+ engine with out a hg clutch or gear box rebuild must be a real careful driver
