Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | Yeah providing you follow all the rules in the blue book, use the right size tubing and fit all the necessary bars and get it passed at scutineering then your good to go. Its no differnt to buying a weld in rollcage other than your i'm making the bars myself.

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | Righteo, so the rollcage is in now, still some cleaning up to do but i'm real pleased how its turned out. I have run the front legs along the windscreen pillar and behind the dashboard. Here is a comparison to my old car... The rest of the photos..

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | you could put a gusset to run along where the door seal is, for the A pillar. Edited by jasonr 10/1/2012 8:27 AM

Expert Posts: 2230 Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire | Are you going to put gussets onto the B pillar, chatting with a guy from Mira who did the metro I got the aero design from he said tieing the shell into the cage at the A and B pillar(top and bottom) made the whole car incredibly stiff, removing a load of chassis flex.

Yeah i know that bit, it just they arent braced like proper shock mounts. They look like the old moto-bodge (build) items that did bugger all to support the shock platform. Im sure Tom has something up his sleeve tho!

For the effort it takes it would make the lower hoop alot stronger for the good old t-bone, plus weight that low will not be an issue. Just a thought as its still in primer This is going to be one mint Rover Edit... a halegen light bulb? Lay off the biftas lads

Expert Posts: 1465 Location: barnsley, south yorkshire / www.djtommib.co.uk | Tom Sanderson - 17/12/2011 12:41 PM About time i started a journal for this, its my new race car for next year. Its a 1.1 metro quest carb, henley blue and the most basic of basic it doesnt even have a radio or glove box! I picked it up off ebay for £400. To be fair when i got it home it seemed way too good to tun into a racer but i did anyway because thats just how i roll. Here are some pictures from the day i picked it up.... Sorry about the poor quality phone pictures btw Anyway that was a few weeks ago now so i've got it all stipped down and its on the spit roast so i can clean up the underneath and make a start on the modifacations... loving the car mate just wondering wher did you get the car turning contraption from dude really want one.and what is the correct terminology for it lol.great progress so far keep up the good work, looks amazing

Expert Posts: 2907 Location: a pub in yorkshire | The reason i havnt put in the lower bar running across the rollcage is because of overall weight, this car will be heavier than my last one so i dont want to be adding more weight just to have to find somewhere else to take it out again, plus it doesnt need it i dont think the rear heel board is strong and when the rear subframe is solid mounted it will be doing a very similar job. If possible any extra weight wants to be over the drive wheels. The reason for the flat shock mounts is because my airbox wouldnt fit with the gti style ones, if you notice i have also had to remove the seam on the bulkhead. Its braced underneith too so should be plenty strong enough, people run without any extra bracing at all and dont have a problem!
