here is my austin metro 1.3L i bought few months back, it is a very origional car other than the wheels with just one owner and 22,000 miles on the clock, it was sat 20 years in a garage until some one got it out which is who i bought it off. i only saw pictures of the car online and payed someone to collect for me, unfortunately with it being sat, a few problems have arisen. i took it for a drive and all i saw was steam out of the bonnet, the belt snapped and it got very hot. so its been in the garage ever since

Start of engine removal

Painted subframe whilst its out

engine looking...old

so one of the problems is the bent valves...put new valves and stem seals in.

all seated with a bit of paint on the head

next was an issue with the gearbox, with it only doing 22,000 miles i thought it couldn't have been something drastic, in which it turned out to be the drive shaft seals. so now the engine is being put back together it now has a new colour too

i saw a friends mk1 metro have yellow headlights so i had to give mine some

i also have alot of new bits ready to go on the car such as:
- chrome rocker cover
- yellow ht leads
- electronic ignition
- wooden steering wheel on boss kit (just a deterent)
- stereo
- put a little sub in the boot for now as it was laying around

looks like a very nice car you have. congratulations with that
you say that you plan on fitting a electronic dizzy, but from one of your pictures it looks like your dizzy is already of the electronic lucas type.

Unfortunately due to the wheels rubbing on the arches and needing tyres i sold them and picked these up (KN Meteors) for very cheap with all good tyres, they will do for now until i pick up some starmags or something.

along with the wheels i managed to get a bodykit and spoiler which is currently being repaired and painted black.

also i got a roof rack for a little project too just for shows, looks tatty now but is being sent to the powder coaters in the morning and having wooden slats on instead of those old poles. only pick i have is on the other metro .

this is how it sits now ready for paint

those new wheels looks like they fit very nicely under the wings. they could benefit from being painted in some color, black with blue centers perhaps?

is it only in the front the revolotions wheels rub? if so it is quite easily avoided.

that roof rack, is it a universal one or is it metro specific? it looks old.

yeah they dont have centre caps though :/ i will make some up im sure they come off a austin metro mk1 and was told they come from a mini midas? as long as they go through mot i dont care i want some starmags or maybe some origional wheels

the roof rack is kind of universal as it opens out. it is quite old, been sat on the car for around 20 years. i have 2 of these but the other one is missing a clamp so i will have to make 4 new ones up. it also came off a mk1 metro

Very clean! As I was scrolling through the photos I was wondering if those revo's would rub or not! Was it by much? Could have always rolled the arches to make room.

it didnt by much only when turning really. but it was jacked really high and i want it lower, before i get it repainted i will be rolling and stretching the arches out a little so i can fit some starmags on or something. i didnt like the revo's so looking for something different.

I wouldn't bother with an oil-cooler on a non-turbo manual, no need and don't want to overcool it.
I'm not a fan of Revo's either, just don't like 4-spokes. Like the RFX's, but have an issue with 5-spokes with 4-studs on show!?!
If you only want to see what an 'Evo' grille looks like, can 'photoshop' it or look at others that have been done.
If you want to do one, you can use the bits you cut out to make side pieces that better match the bottom bar.

Grille options edits:-

about oil coolers on a-series cars. I agree with marv. when I used my blue a-series as a daily the only time the oil would get to hot was after 20 minutes doing 100mph at the motorway. my blue hill climb a-series doesn't have a oilcooler, I have fitted the oil-water heat exchanger but I don't think its necessary for hill climbing really.

cool with the turbo engine to fit the turbo engine you would need an oil cooler, turbo downpipe and an airfilter as far as I can see. the engine probably also need a service with plugs, rotor, cap, oil and filter.

do you mean these ones?
http://minispares.com/product/Classic/Gearbox/Diffs/Diff_Parts/CHM85.aspx

you can used the ones of an other gearbox yes, but on one side there ought to be shims between the diff and diff cover plate.
what you do is you tighten it together with one of the diff cover plates tightened to torque, the back housing on, and then you adjust the amount of shims needed using a feeler blade on the other diff cover plate. check haynes or an old mini manual when you do it. this is to have the right amount of pressure on the diff bearings as I understand it.

have been a little busy so not much work got done. managed to clean some of the last bits up such as starter motor and alternator etc.

also found out it had the wrong abutment plate so i sourced a new one.

nice new one without the air box scre at top for the cleaner look

currently how it looks now

ok so due to a lot of reasons this car does have to go unfortunately. it is near the end of completion with just needing timing setting up and rad/hoses putting on, the mechanic working on the car isnt able to touch it for another month and with me working on my other cars this must go before the mechanic buys it and breaks it for his mini's. it is immaculate underneath as i said before and with a few tiny spots on the roof and 5p size dent on the passenger wing it is immaculate but im not a-series guy, after buying the 1.8 metro i have lost all interest.

i am looking for 700 but will have to be trailered away. for an extra 300 i could add a metro advantage shell which has full bodykit, cross spoke wheels etc but does have rust underneath, this one has been pulled apart by a mini guy but hopefully someone may be able to save that too.
