cleaned, polished and waxed the f at the weekend and noticed that the passenger door looks to have been resprayed in the past and the paint work is a little hazy. just wondering if there is anyway of getting looking better without respraying it. the colour is spot on, just the laqure isnt smooth.
this pics shows it but ill try and get a better one tomorrow.

Could be remidied by wet sanding (2500-3000grit) followed by a machine polish - might even work by hand with the correct compound.

I wouldnt do anything until you know how much paint is actually on the door though

Paint depth guage, only problem is there are expensive (unless you can find someone with one).

Im not entirely sure how it measures paint thickness, im not sure if its entire paint coat or just the lacquer (think it is this as detailers use them before machine polishing and the only thing you want to touch there would be the lacquer so would be pointless if it rear the other paint layers)

They measure the complete depth of the paint primer and everything. basically it just a magnet with a guage, the closer to the metal panel it is (less paint) the harder it will be to pull of, giving you a reading. It wont give you any idea how much lacquer is on unfortunately Just give it a flat down with 2000-3000 and give it a good buff with some fast cut compound either on a cloth (could take some time) or with a machine polisher if you have one

Well I will be driving to Preston in a van sometime between now and Christmas as my Nan lives up there and has some stuff for me to bring down, if it does not come up nice with a bit of elbow greece I dont mind holding onto this door for a few months.
