So I thought I'd let you guys see my (and a couple of mates) most recent project up to where it stands now

The day we began:

As you can see, the wooden floor is totally shot, and lots of work is required. So first things first...lets get some concrete down:

Tea/coffee/burger station essential:

Security posts concreted in (the right hand one is removed in this pic but you can see the base towards the right hand side of the bag)

Running new wiring:

Rebuilding and boarding up old windows:

New power sockets mounted above each bay:

5m Extension made to hang from above each bay (no wires trailing around the edges to trip on, and much easier to access no matter how we lay the cars out)

Extra lighting for each bay:

Getting there:

Enough space even with our massive cars:

Lets brighten the place up a bit:

Insulate the wall:

Paint the floor...

Temporary bodged door latch:

Part of the floor again:

Start to build work bench:

Sack off the thin board and add some proper thick boards for strength, also some extra struts on the bench:

Sweeping the floor:

Finishing first coat of floor paint:

Thats all the pics I have for now.

We have re-concreted the door frame posts for more strength, and beefed up the double doors considerably. Also got hold of some insulation, hopefully enough to kit the whole place out.

Tonight we are collecting lots of wood (the perks of taking a development van from work ) and also a couple of sofas, and will get the 2nd coat of paint on the floor.

Still got to finish securing the doors, board the windows, insulate, beef the whole structure up and install a new consumer unit. Power and lights have been re-wired and are ready to go. Probably cant see in the pics but we have had ground anchors concreted in by the bench to secure anything valuable...plan is to have the place secure enough that no-body would get in anyway.

So far this has been about 2 weeks of 2-3 nights a week work. Only thing that has cost us a significant amount of money has been the floor.

Metro moves in this weekend along with the contents of the rest of my garage.

What do you think?

Update from last night!

The paint we used:

Nice set of draws we were left with:

New/old wiring and consumer unit:

Roof is nice and bright after 2 coats (mostly)

Came free with the unit:

One of the ground anchors:

Sofas have arrived:

After a bit of a sit down we got the 2nd coat on the floor:

Also picked up a big old stack of pallets and wood from a recycling centre.

the metro is moving in tomorrow

You've got me thinking about doing this now
If you don't mind me asking, are you planning to make any money off it or is the cost low enough to swallow?

Well we have gone in 3 ways on the rent, and got a 4th paying £50 per month for a spot (storage)

For me it works out cheaper than renting a council garage (!) obviously we got it cheap because it was pretty fucked when we moved in, and we have had to spend some money on getting it up to spec. The good thing is that we have paid for the concrete up front in exchange for x amount of free months until we effectively get our money back

That's pretty good
The only way I could get one round here would be to move into it and just using my parents address as place of residence

So on Saturday I emptied my garage and transferred all my stuff to the unit:

That was a longness, especially avoiding the crazy thick patches of paint that the guys laid down when they wanted to go home:

So thats the reason my metro is currently parked outside, going to put her in tonight. I managed to get hold of this much insulation:

Hopefully enough to do the majority!

Back up there tonight to tidy my stuff up. Got more cars coming in this week, and more work to be done. Watch this space

What a great space, could do with a couple of ramps to finish it off did you prime the floor before painting?

Think the most we will have are some lorry style axle stands I think, or some home made side lift or something. Haven't really checked out the options.

The slab was left to dry for a couple of weeks, first coat was mixed with 10% white spirits, 2nd coat was neat. No primer, it's an oil based paint so requires less prep I believe? I assume you have some experience in this area?! First coat once fully dry seemed pretty tough

Cheers mate, got lots of space all around the workshop and a field out back, should be cool for some bbqs in the summer

Yeah get some pics up! Be nice to see your space. So much better than a single garage/driveway!

I'll have to come up sometime

Mines unfortunatly a 3 car "unit" which is a stables which has a double garage door on it and loads of concrete around it down the bottom of my nans garden, far from ideal but fedup of not having anywhere I can strip a car down and be away from the elements

Yeah still better than nothing man!

Come down for sure! Would be amazing to have a few guys over for a meet/BBQ/span sting session! Got enough members round here if most people got involved

So this is the space we have around our workshop:

Yes it's not exactly tidy, but we can do what we want there

Got my buddies Westfield in there too now:

Just an s13 and s14 left to fit now!

Little farm gets my vote. A few pigs, chickens and a cow. Bacon and egg sarnies and a constant supply of milk for brews.

Good effort bud! Looks like all the graft is paying off. Id love a place like that. Ive just got a poxy council garage I pay a tenner a week for. All my parts are in it and theres no room for a car. Doesnt even have electrics. Lol

Thanks guys

We got lucky really, I was browsing Rightmove for no apparent reason and saw a couple of cheap units at this place. Told a couple of mates who seemed keen so we went to look. Turned out they weren't big enough and the lady offered us this instead.

Took some deciding on, initial expense for the floor etc and negotiating rental terms but it seems to have worked out nicely so far

I'm hoping there will be enough people up for a spannering/bbq/drinking session sometime this summer
