Pushing hard on the road Dad's one doesn't touch either, only when autotesting/sprinting.

Don't like socks, they flow well (depending on location of course) but let in too much crap for my liking. Ram tubes are good though, esp enclosed in an airbox with remote filter.

Secondaries (ie the bit before it goes 2:1) should be quite long ideally, but with the standard cam no point in extending the Moss ones. My Metro ones are very long (ie back to gear lever) but I run a modified cam and the overlap situation is quite different.

Wouldn't go too lairy on the road, makes it a pain the rectum to use. Get a good midrange cam like Kent 286, or at most 296 -> My bro runs this, and you definitely wouldn't want anything lumpier on the road, spoils the car really. Then get the secondaries extended, know a handy stainless welder?

I was going to get a 286, want to keep as much lowdown torque as possible, and yeah, I can weld stainless so its not an issue there

My moss order arrived today so I did some work to my dads MGB (thermostat, rocker cover gasket and seals, fanbelt and a few other bits) and then threw the headbolts and rocker bits on the midget, just got to torque the bolts down and do the valve clearances, attach the dynamo and plumb up teh coolant system and its actually ready to run!

how many CC's is the engine in your midget? isn't it 1100cc? remember that the same cam is more lairy in a smaller engine than in a larger engine, so perhaps you should consider getting the 276 cam instead of the 286.

aah ok well then I can tell you that I am running the Kent md296sp cam in my A series and that it is not very drivable in a city or queue or anything. If I were to use that car everyday I would use a 286 or perhaps even less. my 1275 engine idles lumpy at 2000-2500 rpm with the that cam and doesn't pull on full throttle until ~3200 rpm.

Aye, was intending on getting a 286 for the spare engine still in cahoots as to which engine to rebuild, as I can rebuild the "future" engine for less than an A-series, and its about 3x more powerful, so might focus on getting the suspension and running gear up to scratch for now

Near enough finished now, just got to finish the fuel lines, flush the fuel and put some fresh stuff in, put some coolant in and then fire it up!

Full compression is a big bonus. Good work, now get onto that Konversion.

want to get it MOT'd first, going to run it around as an A for a bit (get my monies worth out of the cylinder head mainly)

I want to sort all the suspension out first, I want it to be a very capable midget so dont want to drop more power in then find it cant cope with the power

Brought the car round to the house today while helping a mate sort his 200sx, mainly to do a few tweaks and time it up, the engine started first spin from cold which made me very happy and it purrs like a kitten, made a quick video, sounds alot nicer in person but still its pretty smooth none the less!

Also cleaned the crappy air filter, turned out it was the wrong way round so the holes that vent to the dashpot were covered, lovely

Took some time yesterday to fit the soft-top back onto it, then took it upto work this mornign to get it mot'd, failed on the brakes, but everythign else was spot on, I knew the brakes would be an issue as they had started to bind due to it sitting for so long.

I started the brakes, got the rear left done (after a fairly big fight) and then started on teh front left, couldnt work out how to get the disk off (turns out youve got to whip the wire wheel splines off) so gave up as it was getting late and i'd been at work since 6:30

Its been a while

Well, after all this crap, took it to get MOT'd where I used to work, brakes were all cack

So new front calipers + pads, new rear cylinders, shoes and drums, passed the MOT, did 4 miles in it and the exhaust fell off again (the swaged part isnt round)

So parked it up, 10/11 months or w/e later (its mot is due next month...) and its now got a LCB and 2" single box system (similar to the maniflow)

Also fitted my rollover-bar that ive had in the shed for 3 years
