Admin Posts: 1576 Location: Burnley, Lancs | Br0th3rk's R100 has been in the Man Cave receiving some welding treatment to a collapsed jacking point and to have an appalling patch repair to the sill sorted, thought I'd stick the pitures up. Before After, I've since added a new jacking point to but I haven't taken a picture yet. Got this f*cking abortion to sort now Rusty as a Jew's wallet hinge, it has spread under the seat mounting point so I've had to rive that out to plate the floor up. It's also spread toward the exhaust tunnel under the sound deadening but I haven't pictured that yet.

Transport Guru MP Moderator Posts: 4947 Location: Bromley, Kent | That last one is a typical 'get through' MOT type of weld. 'Make it last a couple more years' rather than fix properly! Good work! Not as bad as me and Liam's GTa 16v which has been puttied everywhere. Any rust holes were patched up with like silicon sealant. I started poking a small hole in boot floor, rest was 'spongey' started poking now got a massive hole. The jacking points have the same texture. Unfortunately due to space the GTa 16v will be biting the dust but for a good cause, keeping the Henley GTi going and sheltered.

Expert Posts: 2568 Location: Up in the lakes | Unlucky find bud. Surprised the drivers side didnt leak like a sive, or was that the only thing keeping the floors dry Got to say your weld looks consistent, looks like you've mastered the art of getting a strong weld without blowing holes in the floor. Keep up the good work.

Elite Veteran Posts: 848 Location: Blackburn | Matt got some butt welding clamps during the week, to butt weld his arch, so we went down the unit tonight to try them out. Clamps Matt then filled the heater, to warm the place up. We then used many mathematical pieces of equipment to get the new arch pannel to fit. The results the pannel sort of fits, just need to tack it on and make sure it still fits, in other news the clamps dont work as the inner arch gets in the way, however they would probably be good on flat stuff. I then used advanced tecniques to fix Bings engine While Matt fitted the release arm to Bings gearbox That is all for tonight, more may or may not be done tomorrow.

Elite Veteran Posts: 848 Location: Blackburn | Well, we got a new toy(tool) for the unit, for when matt finishes welding the outer arch pannel in. one of these However it was too long to fit under the metro arch, so in my dinner hour today i had a play and made it a little shorter. marked up, showing how much had to be removed. Cut Cut a piece out of the scrap outer box section to fill the gap in the slot in the inner box. Welded in an then cut New nut welded on back together Just need to try it now. Veteran Posts: 401 Location: Dover, Kent | I just jack the car up, heat the arch up. Put yellow pages on wheel and drop the car down. Work round in an even fashion. That's what most people do mate.

Elite Veteran Posts: 848 Location: Blackburn | If you look at an original rear arch they are rolled at the front and rear edges, and we want to recreate that. If we wanted to bodge it I'm sure I could have found a bit of scaffold pipe/yellow pages

Elite Veteran Posts: 883 Location: birmingham | What i always do when i roll a wheel arch on a metro is to seal the lip into the inner wheel arch with seam sealer or fibre glass so there is no lip for mud or moisture to sit on then spray them with wax oil from the inside. They will last for years.

Elite Veteran Posts: 848 Location: Blackburn | Going to seam weld the entire thing then cavity wax the shit out of it, they always rust from the inside out.
