Hi all !

Long time no speak !

Been away looking for a metro and a donor vehicle for the last 7 months in order to start my VVC conversion.

Manages to find myself an immaculate Rover 100 3 door multi point injection , 1 owner from new with 40K on the clock with a full service history. In addition I have also found myself an MG ZR 160 with 50K and also 1 owner from new as a donor vehicle. Its almost a shame to be tinkering with both but hey im determined to create a nice vvc metro.

Now i have done a fair bit of research on the conversion but just wanted to fire a resonable question over ;

Apart from the engine , ecu , pg1 , 5as and loom - What else can i use from the ZR 160 for the conversion?

For example are any of the engine mounts the same as the mgf or are they different? Driveshafts same as MGF? , Brakes?

Im not going to have a long period of time removing the engine and bits from the ZR in the workshop that I have been given permission to use and I cant have both in the workshop so the ZR will need to be sold as a rolling shell or scrapped ASAP. Looking to do some homeworl on what to remove because of this.

Thanks all

Jim

From the ZR The engine, loom, gearbox & driveshafts (if your doing PG1) and that's about it. Brakes are from a MGF and don't believe the ZR ones fit.

Any photos of the ZR as I could be after a couple parts ?

Ah nice one so the ZR drive shafts .. are they the same as the MGF shafts and will fit to standard hubs from PG1?

Yeah heres a pic. This is the only one i have at the moment. Can do more if needed however , I would prefer to sell the car as a complete rolling shell minus the parts i need. Would sell for cheap.

ZR shafts are useless for a metro with a pg1. You'll need mgf/tf

Use the downpipe and manifold welded onto a decat or use the ZR's cat too

Wow! That looks super tidy! Shame to break it up. I would be interested in the calipers all round as spares?

Yeah sorry my bad about the driveshafts.

Use the ex system up to the 1st box, its a decent dia, you might be able to use the cat if you reposition it along
the floorpan in the gear change linkage. Use the gear stick rear support rubber if its the purple polybush one.
Oh, yeah, use the gear linkage and shorten it.
Use the top engine tie bar, it should be 100mm between bolt centres, use it on the lower sump/subframe link,
you will need to use a MGF/TF sump bracket as it is shorter than the ZR one which means the top tie bar (100mm centre)
will bolt straight on (sump/subframe) and angle the engine correctly.
You will need the clutch cable bracket on the gearbox mount to hybrid it to a MGF/TF gearbox bracket for cable
operation, other wise do a hydraulic conversion using MGF/TF bits and a Austin Metro hydraulic clutch pedal, if doing this
you will need a MGF/TF gearbox bearing release arm for the slave cylinder.

Will let you know 11sli if I dont have a buyer for the whole car.

Thanks Dave huge help!

Only thing I may need you to offer some clearer detail on is the Gearbox bracket. I assume the ZR PG1 is cable ? Can I use the clutch cable in the metro and mate this straight up the PG1?

Also do you have any advice regarding the alternator - better to use ZR or Metro?

Thanks again

you need the cable bracket part of the zr gearbox mount and weld it to the MGF mount (with the hydraulic slave cyl bracket not fitted). You can use the metro cable.
Alternator, use the one that the vvc engine loom fits, as it either bolts both the cables on (mems2j), or one plugs in and the other bolts on (mems3). Either one has more amperage than a metro one (Iirc, 85a vs 45a), as your r100 mpi is mems 1.9, that will go straight onto a mems 2j loom.

Thanks again
