Parked oppersite to one over the weekend in a dusty car park while waiting for a friend and noticed it hence the discussion, are they for your feet to stand on to clean the windscreen?

Don't know about the transporter but I have them on my Tourneo.
They come in very handy as, on the previous version, you had to hold
onto the windscreen wiper stem.
