Roughly how many miles would you say you can get out of half to a full tank around town and on a run?
When I picked up a 1.1 it was just above the red, so threw 20quid in which almost filled the tank and it drove home 114 miles using just over half a tank. Down the M4 mostly.
But the pile of shit is using half a tank to do 24 miles around town ffs. Just cost me 20 odd quid to do about 30 fooking miles!
It's running rich, pulled the plugs earlier and sooted right up. But if I manage to sort it, and how? how many miles should I expect roughly?
Checked tyre pressures all were on 22 so banged 30 in, air filter etc new and clean

Used to get way more than that back in the day.
How are you driving it?
You should never use high throttle unless its high rpm.
Just tickle it!

I would get the mixture checked at a garage that knows carbs. Check the idle mixture, that the co drops to near 0 if you raise the revs to a couple of thousand rpm. Also check the choke operation to make sure it turnes off

I drive it like I stole it
Nah, I just use it to pootle about in, and never give it full throttle. Always try and keep the revs low to try and get good mpg, always do in every car.
I knew a 1.1 wasn't going to be great on fuel, but it's fooking crap!
It has got a manual choke, and seems to work freely. Don't use it much though, always seems  to start fine without it and idles around 8-900.
I might take it to a carb place and have it sorted, but may bang it back on fleabay next week instead.

if the car starts just fine without pulling the choke out this time of year I would guess it was running to rich.

My 1.1 carb version was running very rich when I got it, and it was due to a previous owner having removed the cover from the mixture screw at the bottom / front / right hand side of the carb and having messed with it. I set it up by removing the vacuum chamber - three torx screws, and turned the mixture screw out until the jet got to its highest position in relation to the bridge. I them turned the screw in 1.5 turns and reassembled the carb. I have kept an eye on the plugs to see how its going, and have tweaked the screw by up to a total of a quarter turn since. Bleached, white plug = too lean so turn the screw in by up to 1/4 turn. Sooty black plugs = too rich so up to 1/4 turn out. As was said earlier, my car simply won't start without choke. The first click should just increase the rpm and the second and third clicks should increase the mixture.

Both of you please go to a garage to get those carbs set up properly before you burn a valve or something.
