I can't find a reference to it - (Imperial preferred if poss) I tried the tool that I just bought for 50p on a junk stall and it fits! - the answer is 1/4". But the adjusters are seized solid so squirted on some spray and I'll try again tomorrow. | ||

I tried to adjust them to get the rear drums off as they stick on the shoes - any ideas? first as you tried spray some sort of rust-lubricant into the threads in the middle and try to work the square adjuster back and forth. if this doesn't work, and the drum turns quite freely, try spinning it while knocking the inside edge so that the drum is pulled outwards and eventually get stuck on the shoes. I have tried continuing to knock the drum off a couple of times without damaging anything inside, so I would try to do that when the adjuster is hopelessly stuck. | ||

Veteran Posts: 482 Location: Meuspath | You should be able to tap the rear of the drum on the edge with a hammer to loosen. You might need to do this, rotate and repeat several times to free it off | ||

Member Posts: 67 | **Update** - There wan no way that the adjusters were going to respond to spraying - they were still solid so I tried - a miniature blowlamp! I played the flame on to the adjuster square and they both moved after some heating - and the drums were off. The shoes look new and the rest of the interiors of the brakes are clean and great. I applied copper grease to the adjuster mechanisms and their screws - adjusted the brakes and now all is well. Whilst I was at it I greased the four grease points on the suspension and also greased the front caliper slider pins. I'll change the brake fluid soon as it's dirty. Another set of jobs done. Now - out for a good razz around. | ||
