Well this is how I leave it for this weekend, would have done a bit more but the kerosene for the heater ran out so the place got very cold very quickly. Pictures...

This rotten bastard in the Metro's alter ego, the car and wheel arch repairs have gone on the back burner briefly while my time is spent sort other peoples hagard ass cars, however I shall continue in the next week or so.

I did take a chance to check out the rust situation on the drivers side of the car tho..............

The drivers sill is as rotten as the passenger side, curse you sunroof...............

Holey

I've bought all the new steel I need to sort the sills and arches, just need to get on with it!

Good job you can weld. Thought my arch was bad, as somone kept reminding me about it. Seems it's about time I remind that same person about his

Spent a little time Sunday continuing with this arch repair, with a bit of luck should get the outer arch welded on this Sunday!

This is somewhere near finished now, I've had a rethink with the inner arch but I'll explain better later.

Few pics of the outer arch welded on, this is without filler and just a quick coat of primer.

Update time.

Been having a weld-a-thon on the N/S inner/outer sill and floor, basically cut out anything thats rotten and weld in clean steel. Pictures.....

Plating up of the usual rust areas

These holes have been created by the stiffener under the floor, I've drilled out the welds and removed the stiffener so I can repair in on the bench top then weld in back in. Nearly drilled through the hydrospaz pipe too

These 0.8mm steel angles are available from Magnum panels and are around £5 for a 2 metre length. Invaluable when it comes to sorting rotten sills.

The small one is the perfect size for the length of angle steel that joins the floor to the outer sill on a Metro.

Just the outer sill to weld on tomorrow now.

The pile of rotten shit I've cut out so far.

Oh, and one more of the Metro looking posh under its cover.

Outer sill welded.

Just gotta dress the plug welding now so it looks like this.

I've also folded over the leftover flange on the bottom edge of the sill, I'll seal this to keep the water out.

Also gotta sort out the rusted subframe mount.

It's not that rotten really, the sills are abnormally rotten for some reason but apart from that and the usual arch rust the car is in fairly good order. I blame the sunroof.

Update time.

Huge amount of welding done and still more to do but this is finally getting there. Can't be arsed to explain what's going on in each picture but I'm sure you'll get an idea.

Donor car

Bit of box section to ensure the swags on the new panel follows the rest of the sill

Welded

More to come later.

Nearing the end of the epic weldathon on this car, getting bored of it now!

Had a victory beer tonight having finally completed the last major welding task, just little bits and pieces to do now before I think about paint.

Cheers guys, no secret really just experience and patience. If anyone's wondering I'm using a Clark MIG 135TE with 0.6 wire and CO2 beer gas robbed from a bowling centre, nothing fancy.

thats the welder that I have but I have converted to a euro torch and put an electronic gas solonoid in the welder, the standard welding torch was a little bit flimsy and I am using argon five, most peoples mistakes when welding a car is they try to too much at once.
