I often hear horror stories of people cracking their windscreens when trying to push them out, and since I needed to remove mine to sort a dodgy bit of headlining I thought I'd assemble a guide on how to remove one on your own without cracking it.

The removing bit can be done alone. Gather an assortment of 1-2mm thick inch square pieces of plastic or metal, I'm using some bits of clear acrylic plastic.

From the inside, peel the screen seal back and wedge the pieces of plastic between the seal and the panel seam which it fits around, wedge them at around four inch intervals, like so.

Keep wedging them across the top and along the sides, like so.

When you have fitted enough the screen will simply push out with two hands and minimum effort, the pieces of plastic will drop on the floor.

Lift the screen away from the car. Easy and zero cracks.

To refit, fit some strong, thick cord or cable into the lip on the seal, with the joint at the bottom. I'm using blind cord but something like a sub amp cable works too.

Ease the screen into position ensuring its pushed down onto the panel seam at the bottom, then begin withdrawing the cord. Have an assist apply pressure to the screen on the outside in the area your removing the cord.

Continue round the screen taking extra care in the corners, particularly at the top. I apply silicone grease in the top corners to make the cord easier to pull through. You will find the screen will need hitting with the palms of your hands in places to make the screen seat properly.

Piece of piss.

Great guide. may have to try this soon as I still have a leak from front screen somewhere.

Any chance a mod can make this a sticky or moved to the guide section?
