A friend of mine has a rover 400, 1.4.

The engine has really bad tappet noise. Ive added a little extra oil... any other advice?

Cheers fellas

Put an oil treatment in for tappets and high mileage engines like STP or Wynnes or if still bad which it most likely will as it is very common on the 414's and 416's (weak batch of followers) and get a new set of followers(tappets) fitted.

If he leaves it is will just get noisier to a point and then stay as they are, I know someone that has a 214 with the same problem, been like it for the past 5 years, he's not bothered about it and just left them as they are, still going strong

Think the price was around £40 for a set last time I checked, pop down your local parts place and get them to check
