Just thought I'd make myself a figure of hate for defecting.

Wheels are being replaced by standard ones very soon, but other than that its a completely standard UK model.

And just so we don't start a three page arguement on what is faster, I think in a straight line the GTi SE vvc was the faster and picked up a hell of a lot quicker going onto the throttle.
I just wanted a change from 6 years of Metros and didn't want to be bothered with modifying any more.

May not be as fast in a straight line granted, but if you prang it you'll be a hell of a lot safer! Plus its probably not going to be a rotting hulk in 5 years! nice buy

Ah, like I said. I'm having a break from modding and I don't really want to do anything to invalidate the warranty I've got on it. I don't mind Metros going past me anyway (secretly I'd be quite pleased. lol) It'll be interesting to stick it up against Jon's vvc Metro though.

The reason for going back to the 16"s is firstly insurance (insured as standard) and secondly because 17"s are a little harsh round the lanes and I need a little more sidewall on the tyres. The 17"s are nice though, I've not seen them on another one yet, I think I'll keep them and stick a set of 888s or A042s on for the track.

not a fan to be honest of these cars

but it does look ok, when washed and polished the blue will look nice ( i do like dark blue cars mind) as for the wheels they do suit the car.

A proper shape one I think it will look better on standard wheels

I do like these, but theres so many about and i dont think the insurance would be in my price range

They do look mint, its not a question of looks, its all to do with the profile of the tyres. On the uneven back roads round here, the 17's are just too harsh and can loose grip. Will ride much better on the 16's with some nice 50 profile Toyo's!

Nice one Baz, I had my 1st Impreza coming on 10 years ago now, it was a Jap WRX Type RA. It was without a doubt the fastest B road car I've ever had. The handling on them is immense. They certainly are a car that enjoys being chucked around a back road than trundling up dual carrigeways/motorways.

I had a quick lesson to learn when I got rid of it and got the TVR, went from a 280bhp car that you could fling all over to a 400+ bhp Cerbera, that you couldn't even fling into a parking spot! (That car was waaaaay too tail happy!)

Enjoy it Baz, they are cracking cars.

Did you look specifically for a UK one or did it just come up at the right time/price?

I cant see myself not importing a car from japland next time i buy

PS if you ever want to sell the seats

It was specifically a standard UK one I wanted and finding one that hasn't been abused or crashed or modified or round the clock has taken a while (ask Ali on 2nd thoughts don't.)

As a first car and almost daily runner an import wasn't going to be the best bet, running only on V-power, short gearing and more than double to insure with a tracker fitted. If it was a 2nd car and toy then I'd probably have gone for an import, but I'm not disappointed with this one so its worked out well.

I'm running on v-power for the moment, but at least I know that if fuel prices do rocket again I can switch back to normal unleaded without a problem.

Nice motor! get it cleaned up and get some more pics up.

For insurance, you should try Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels, he gives awesome prices, only speak to Gary though!

First mod for you is an uprated rear arb, mounts and droplinks, helps no end with the understeer

If you look inside the petrol cap, it clearly says use 98 octane only, theres no way I would run normal unleaded in any scoob!.

personally, I'd fit a knocklink too if you are going to use it as intended

There are some clean pics of it to come soon. As soon as I clean it, I go back down a country lane and it ends up dirty again.

I spoke to Mr Moulton @ Keith Michaels, he wasn't any help, said all their schemes require at least a years experience in a similar car.

I've not found understeer a problem yet but that could change as I get more confident with it once it has 4 new identical tyres. The only mod I am considering is the lights- standard are poorer than I expected so I'll be on the lookout for a 2nd hand PIAA driving lamp kit.

I've been reading on snet and sidc and generally it seems that a standard UK MY00 won't come to any harm with 95RON, but I don't think we'll see petrol shoot up that far for a long time so V-power it is.
