Haynes tells to hold the driving flange and swivel hub stationary.
How to do it without damage to any part?

I suppose this is front upper or lower ball-joins?
the last two times I changed one I removed the flange from the drive-shaft and hub and removed the hub from the car. put the hub in a vice and removed the ball-joint with a special extra long 46mm socket. then refit in reverse order. be aware that there are two kinds of ball-joins for the a-series.
