bought my 100 over a year ago with the intention of doing an engine swap. after a long time out of the country im finally in a position to make some progress.

rover 100 Kensington. picked up from London and drove to hull on around £18 of petrol. 2 days later then engine gave up. pretty certain it was hgf.

the body was perfect when I got it but after so long sat unwashed on the drive its starting to rust on the arches. bought a full gta interior to fit so stripped the original interior to find this

that will be getting welded in the very near future.

130mph clocks in with original mileage changed into them. need to wire in for rev counter but engine only went in last week so had no time.

out with the old engine (completely blocked up with k seal)

in with the new 67k mgf vvc. no known history of it so just going to see how I get on before changing gaskets etc.
 photo 13516414_1319598438054295_1561241318901976922_n_zpsbuhpjp8w.jpg

some parts acquired from the scrappy. dipstick etc. didn't think of getting a normal one until I tried to close the bonnet and the rear oil filler was trying to poke through it
 photo 13511020_1319598838054255_1268254058236187312_n_zpshotilh0s.jpg

some wellers to fit once ive got some spacers. these were for sale but no one was interested so decided to keep them
 photo 13501856_1319598724720933_7615652939692206171_n_zpshu6rbsut.jpg

next to fit is the front and rear arbs
 photo 13501659_1319598811387591_3767503969777315402_n_zps0pvejsqz.jpg

discs, pads, fluids, gaskets and filters should be here tomorrow. now I just need to source a suitable exhaust and probably a load of other things which will become apparent at the most inconvenient time.

its pretty good considering how bad some are. slight rust appearing on the rear arches but that's all. having a patch welded in next week hopefully. I went to connect the engine loom and realised I had a mems 1.9 loom :/ I just assumed that with everything being from a mgf 143 that its be 1.9. now I need to find a mems3 loom

front and rear rods chopped. after a mishap and taking too much off the first rod I decided to cut them all the same length. so 14mm off all corners. got some individualising valves but 2 didn't fit so bodged the ones from the connecting pipes.

refitted, expecting to be able to drive it to be pumped up when I take it for an mot...

 photo 13697121_1336242389723233_2465723740538197705_n_zpsjdwqbrp3.jpg

can the units be removed, pumped up and then refitted or do they need to be pumped up when already fitted?
going to need some spacers for the front so that the wheels don't catch on the brakes.. well, so that the wheels even fit at all.

new loom to be ordered soon. exhaust to be ordered in 2 weeks. couple of small bits to do then hopefully ready for mot

No you cannot pressurize the units before putting them in but you might be able to fill them with hydragas fluid so that you do not need a vacum pump to get the air out when refitting. Requires a bit of planning with the individualizing pipes and the retaining plates.

just won a liquid levers pump on ebay. don't know wether it has vaccum or not but its a start. if it doesn't have vaccum I can just pump up then depressurize abit and then repump to get rid of some of the air?

If your worried about air in the cans you can do the following...

lay them flat with the valve off and the inlet pointing upward
pour fluid in and wobble the can about a bit untill no air bubbles come out and theres a steady flow of fluid
screw on the valve
pump some fluid in then let a little back out
fit the can.

Exactly as skrib said. Deffo the best way to minimise air in cans. Can get a decent set up even using a grease gun pump with this method.

i didn't expect it to end up as well as it did tbh. bought an old liquid levers pump yesterday but its non vacuum. attempted to pump up suspension but one valve isn't holding pressure at all. just blasts it all back out as soon as the connection is released. going to try and tighten up the core and see if it makes a difference

after pulling out the 2 sets of interior to make it easier to level out the height of the car I found a small rust bubble. gave it a tap with a screw driver to see if it sounded hollow and it went straight through. some more tapping and I ended up with this.

 photo 13754623_1340602729287199_575009373952204925_n_zpsdoniufuh.jpg
another small patch that will require welding. still nowhere near as bad as I expected overall.

after my initial slip up with the first rear rod, cutting about 14 mm off, I decided to just do the same all round and see how it ended up.
 photo 13592394_1340602745953864_8152124984556487500_n_zpsoysbslgu.jpg
not as much ground clearance as I expected but im planning on making up an aluminium plate to cover the underneath.

 photo 13707805_1340602785953860_5355964587235587650_n_zpsmjmjjzek.jpg
how it was sat with 2 full interiors in and slightly uneven ground. most of the heavier stuff was on the drivers side, took it all out to take the majority of it to the tip and looks a lot better now.

thanks, its took long enough and cost a lot more than I initially wanted to spend ive got the spoiler in the garage, just need to give it a paint. is it just a case of drilling through the boot and then using the screws and some sealant?

There's that way or do it the way rover did it and put rivnuts through the top of the tail gate and bolt it down. There should also be 2 studs at the bottom of the spoiler that goes through the boot lid but I suspect most have been chopped off now. I'd also put some double sided tape on the bottom lip so it doesn't spoil the paint.

just a quick point when putting on the rear spoiler - I had mine done when the car was repainted black purple - the bodyshop used some sealer around the bottom of the spoiler mounding - (the bit that sits between the rear screen and number plate recess) but they done a continuous bead - so when it rains the bottom of the spoiler fills with water - which makes the boot lid heavy -and a load of water cascades out when you open the boot.

loom is fitted. welding still isn't done and ive made no progress on wheels. haven't touched the car for a while now. after fitting the loom it wouldn't start. the engine has been unused for about 18 months. sprayed abit of easy start in and it fired up for about a second or 2 and then cut out. did this twice and then left it. need to put new spark plugs in anyway but ive read that this sounds like an immobiliser fault. im sure everything was taken from the same car. is there a way to bypass the immobiliser to rule this out?

after leaving the car for some time I went out at the weekend and finally got it running. crank sensor was the problem in the end, at least plugs/leads etc are changed now anyway. fired up straight away. now to get some kind of exhaust, bleed brakes and coolant system and weld the patches then ready for mot. still not certain on wheels. at the minute I have 2 wellers 13x5.5 on the rear and standard r100 steels on the front :/ not ideal really. doesn't look too bad though imo
