After having driven the 400 to and from Work for 1.5 years i'm back in the 998 a-Series at least for a short While until i determine what mpg it does on the open Road. My Girlfriend usually drives it as her Daily with 50% of her trip spend in Queues where it does 33mpg mainly in town driving where i only have a-roads and motorway to Work. Exciting to see How it Will do and it is Nice to drive a metro again. It is a low compression 998 with a Kent 256 cam and it has been properly adjusted on a rr and has a 3.44 gearing and skinny slightly larger wheels than standard and it has a 1275 exhaust. What do you Think it Will do? 40mpg?

My MG regularly returns well over 50mpg on a run!
Get it sat on 60mph+ at a constant speed and economy is great.
It's the normal 30mph stop/start journeys that mess up my average.

I use a website called fuelly.com to track my economy, maybe worth a try!?
Just don't tag it as a partial fill up and you get accurate results for everything except full tank!

my cousins metro 998 high comp engine normally gets over 300 miles per tank and that's driven round country lanes and towns. Think it works out 50mpg on average

when you state 300 miles on a tank its very interesting to know if its the 5.5 galon or 7.5 galon tank he has?
even with the usual 5-10% wrong reading speedo that mpg is very good. the highest I have ever had is 45mpg and that was from a 1275 HLE doing 45-50mph on long straight b roads.

this car used to have a high compression engine fitted, that engine has the 3.76 final drive gearing so it does more revs at the same speed but it has so much more power and is so easier to drive than the low compression currently fitted, but it has been rolling roaded to 45bhp which is ok but a bit to little to run a 3.44 gearing.

That is a very good mileage you have there! Yes I know fuelly.com very well, I use it from time to time to look up mileage of various cars haven't got a profile though.

my trip to work luckily has no starting and stopping and only 4 roundabouts, so a good result should be possible.

The first 3 tanks of petrol is now used and that gave the mpg of 37,3 41,8 and 43,2 so that is very good, I'm pleased with that

Can't moan at 40+mpg...
but could moan at using 3 full tanks so fast!!

What does a litre of fuel cost you there?

Time to test some aero mods on it, transfer the best on to the race car!?

yes I drive a lot a litre of octane 95 petrol cost about £1.27.

I don't think aero mods will do much difference. I would much rather convert it to some sort of injection and ecu setup.

this one if I had the money

My 1.3L metro has just done 260 miles to one
Tank of fuel (low filler neck type) which was mixed motorway and town driving (an hour of stop start traffic) driving it
normally and some full throttle runs. Could easy do 300miles if I drove it in a economical way

depending on if you have the large or small fuel tank and if you used all of it or left a litre or two that would work out to 30-40mpg. sounds like it is much the same as mine then. except yours is a 1.3
