I planning on converting my R100 1.1 from SPI to MPI without replacing the original flywheel to the updated MEMS 1.9 version.  I plan to do do this by using the engine loom of an early plastic manifold K16.  This allows for the use of the earlier crankshaft position sensor and the earlier ignition coil at the front of the car.  I chose the plastic manifold as it shares the idle air valve of the 8 valve manifold.  With this I am hoping to run a the 1.4 ECU that belongs with the loom.

My question is though has anyone ran a 1.4 ECU on a 1.1 or any K series ECU on a smaller engine capacity than it was designed for?  Has anyone encounted any problems doing this?  I must admit I am slightly concerned as to the idling quality I would get because of the air capcity difference between them and I have personally seen a 1.8 Zetec in a Fiesta Si being run on a 1.6 ECU and it would hunt when idling and eventually stall!

Thanks

Dave

i ran a 1800 16v on a 1400 8 v ecu, and i think it gave me better performance than the 1800 ecu, although it didnt run as smoothly , hth

What capacity engine are you installing? The MEM's 1.6 1400 16v ECU should cope okay with up to a 1800 although it will lack top end...i have seen a MEM's 1.9 1400 8v ECU on an 1800 a couple of times and they have ran okay untill pushed high up the revrange.

It is for a 1.1 at the moment although I do have plans to run it on a 1.4 8v in the future still without replacing the flywheel because it would be on an earlier wet liner block not the newer damp liner block that most MEMS 1.9 Metros have.
