You dont need a new rad, mine is running the Gti rad and an 82 degree 'stat and runs cooler than my old 1.1 on the run and in traffic.

Have you sorted the brakes, not a mechanical obstical to the change but one worth considering.

i was told the rad may cause problems as mine is spi and the hoses are different! i would also rather be safe that sorry as my rad is lookin a bit...well...knackard at the mo! so i need one of them...trying to get one from a late rover 100 with the ally rad!

the way i see it i wont actually physically be going any faster and im adding no weight to the car so my brakes should be fine untill i need new pads and disks...then i will probably upgrade!

cheers mate

Your looking at the brakes thing completely wrong mate, whenever you uprate the power of the engine as much as you will be doing, The first thing you do is sort the brakes. You will drive it faster and harder and if you are still on solid disks and standard pads you will have some serious brake fade. Which is not good on a VVC metty!! You got to look at the later vented setup with some decent discs and pads, your safety is more important then a few extra quid!! Tis just my opinion, but im sure many others will agree...

yeah i see where you are coming from! i will upgrade the brakes dont get me wrong, but im driving the car just as hard as i will be when i vvc it! i will just get up to the speeds faster than before, admittedly it means i will be reaching corners at a faster speed and therefore slowing down more! just have to go easy till my brakes need doin i think!
