Tried out a few HDR (High Dynamic Range) with Photoshop and Photomatix, looks trick but i need to take better pictures and actually buy Photomatix to get rid of the watermark

Andy,

Use Qtpfsgui. Its free and won't put watermarks on your pictures. Takes a little getting used to but if you have problems, this page will show you how.

Heres one I did before I found the software I just mentioned

HDR is awesome, just used the program edd suggested and its pretty damn good!

Ok, so its not the best set of pictures but I like the outcome, should really re-do now the slides been machine polished

Compiles 3 different exposure pictures to show all different colours/contrasts of the object.

As Fred says, you have a copy of the picture at best cexposure, a picture of it at poor exposure and a picture of it at high exposure, and blend them together and have a tweek with the settings

only tried with photoshops built in HDR prog.. but I think shots which are fairly close in terms of f-stop work best.. & be carefull not to take shots too far apart (time) esspecially if there is sky/clouds in the shot.. as clouds have a tendancy to move & it will look crap when merged together.

Can produce stunning result though

Was reading some guides online today as you resparked my interest in the technique..

Turns out I was doin it wrong & wasn't using photomatix at all

I'll try again with some of my scotland shots.. theres a few tripod ones amongst those.. but cloud mevement may still be an issue as the shots were bracketed manually..

Digging up an old thread..

I thought I'd posted an HDR shot that I'd done of the Reyland metro beofre & I was going to put this updated version with it.. but I can't find it anywhere? It seems better to update this existing thread rather than start a new one.

So here's the Original shots.. 1st normal exposure, second approx + 1.5 stops, 3rd approx - 1.5 stops

1st HDR I tried using Photomatix & maybe a tweak in Photoshop.

Used the details enhancer & IMO its a little too much..

So here is the re-worked version I did this week using another HDR created using FDRTools Basic application (free - but limited).. using the tone compression method.

This was then combined with the original image & the above photomatix details enhancer hdr result.. but masked to hide the most visible watermark on the bumper ;)

Its closer to a more natural shot.. but with improved lighness in the shadow areas & sky detail retained.

Its not perfect by any means.. but its better than my first attempt :D

Mutts.

I went to Lichfield Cathedral with a mate yesterday on the hunt for some nice HDR subjects.

Big thanks to Boylin for the info on Photomatix works a treat mate

This was taken at 5 different exposures and just tweaked in Photomatix
