'160' badge - Yes.

GTi 16v badge - No.

When you reply to this thread it shows the first picture you put up in 2010, what a transformation mate

Agreed, really nice motor but just not a GTi. I like the arrangement with the 160 badge tho.

But it's not a GTi, and a GTi body kit won't make it one

be better off with the italic gti 16v badge if anything, or a 114 gti badge from an export car

I did try and find a Gta badge, but i couldnt.

i like the 16v bit but now i think about it, it is morally wrong. maybe ill hack 16v off and buy a Gta badge.

Ok so, this beast as done over 1500 miles now, and i havent had 1 single issue bar a tired battery!

I never did show you guys what happened to my FACTORY fitted 1.1 exhaust...
Driving along at a steady easy 60mph, then BOOOOOM! Car turns from a 1.8vvc to a NASCAR V8. Exhaust just casually split in half and left me dragging my cat along the floor all the way to work!

2012-12-29 16.52.46 by MetroMorey, on Flickr

So this resulted in my momentarily buying a GTI system, which still wasnt really good enough for the 160...

I then said to hell with it!
After many coins and notes, and 5 hours in a powerflow garage...

So this resulted in me driving the thing like every vvc should be at FULL TILT! (for at least once a week! lol)

So one evening, me and my mate john go hooning up the highstreet - in a rather childish and silly suggestion to wheelspin all the way up the highstreet. Well... 1st - wheelspun all the way through the revs, hit the limiter then slammed into 2nd... the combination of the type a diff making the car feel like its driving over cobbled streets at 70 and the gearchange itself sent the car into super vibrating mode.
Fearing the worst, pulled up at home had a look at the engine bay and... FUCK! the engine ARM not the mount had snapped! DAMN!

So the Sunday BEFORE pride of longbridge i had to do this:

Another snap of the car as it stands at the moment!

A glimpse into the future! PLEASE let me know your thoughts on the goldness!

Gold doesnt suit it imo. A darker colour like gun metal grey or black would look good though.

Side on picture looks great with the gold wheels. I prefer them over black for sure.

Hummm you might want to think about water with mounting your intake that low. On a dry day obviously no issue, probably a great mounting position, but on a day where there is a lot of standing water and spray i think you could run into problems. If you think about how manufacturers route their cold air intakes, they tend to shield them one way or another. For example on the 25/ZR they used a open intake like that but shielded behind the bumper.

i think your right adrian, might re-position it...

Im thinking about cutting a section out of the roof of the funnel so its not as likely to scoop up water.

its guarded by mesh at the front:

I like that! But as Adrian says, you don't want to be ingesting water.

I wouldn't be too concerned about pulling water up through there, to get enough to do any damage you'd have to fully submerge the pickup in water, otherwise it seems unlikely you'll have enough of a pressure difference to pull anything up the vertical part

his airfilter will clog up with crud with that there. i will dig some closeup pics of my mgf rad conversion for you , the way i have mounted the radiator has given me a large amount of space above it for a ram air scoop located in the left side of the grill.

A lot of miles racked up, not alot of problems...

only a sheared bolt on the alternator mounting and a flat battery...

but thats it!

as modifications go -
