Hi guys and girls, managed to grab a white metro gti from eBay a few weeks ago at a bargain price! I arranged a viewing and after abit if haggling the car was mine. Here's a few pictures.

Only 66k genuine mileage too!!

So there the photos from when I first see it. Had some sort of vinyl wrap on the roof so was afraid of rust but when I got it home it was perfectly fine apart from a very small patch that can get sorted

Took all the floor carpet up to see what the floors were like and I was very happy to see it all good and strong!

The rear arches need replacing but that's all getting sorted so new arches have been bought an will be cut and welded in.

More updates will be coming soon.
Thanks for reading!

I was happy just to find all the mud and no holes lol . To be honest I haven't looks at subframe ect yet as that will all be replaced when engine comes out ect. Still not sure what to do, either go for a bugger engine or just keep it standard and clean.

Exactly mate won't be easy, I've got a Vvc engine running around 180bhp that I was gunna out in it but Vvc is too common, I have a few good friends that have done the 1.8t's and Darren with the 1.4t so I was going towards the 1.8t route.

people were giving this car a hard time on the face book page, it just goes to show that you cant judge a book by its cover. the floor is possibly in that shape because sombody glued the sunroof down. rover put the drains from the sunroof into all the known problem areas regarding rust and this is why if you ask people about them they usually remember the rust because most tro's have sunroofs, if rover did what the french and the germans did and galv dip most of their cars then the british motor industry would have been much different today.

Yeah I see people we're saying things about it butt none of them knew what I paid for it they also never went to view the car or spoke to the bloke in person . I was the only viewer and I made sure I snapped it off his hands. The seats are in very good condition the seat belts are also spot on. Not bad for a car that was used for a part time rally car!! The other thing that was buggered was the floor carpet lol.

Nice work. Careful removing all the stickers to prevent paint damage. Hair dryer should help. I like all these SPi GTis coming out of the wood work slowly.

Also with the floor check under that very front bit of insulation that goes up the bulkhead. Sometime rust can hide under there too.

Thanks David, I'll make sure I check behind the bulkhead too!

Engine will be coming out over the weekend if I get time and then can decide wether I want to smooth the engine bay before it gets re-sprayed can also give the subframe a good touch up with some black hammerite. Also got to waxyol the arches and floor plan ect.

Check the front subby mounts. They get hidden behind arch liners and can rot out. These early cars seem much better as regards to rust it seems.

Over the weekend the engine and gearbox come out of the car! They say cations speak louder than words so here you go!!

Now the engine bay will be de greased and cleaned. Also will take the front subframe out to rebuild and powder coat. Over Christmas the rear arches will also be cut out and new one have turned up ready to replace

Nice find...would be surprised if that floor is as good as it looks though. A hoke with a stout screwdriver might through up some nasties in the usual places - on our car everything looked rosy until we started chipping the sound deadening.

Haven't had many updates recently due to the poor weather and lack of cash. But the front subframe has been taken out to get stripped powder coated and rebuilt with uprated parts and fully polybushed.
Also have the engine bay a clean to see what I was dealing with, pretty happy for a 22 year old car!!

Well I haven't posted for a while as I had a few problems with funds and I was just going to sell the car . But that's sorted now and more work is starting to happen! Stripped my subframe ready for powder coating as well as wishbones and anti roll bars! Looking for Ralph to make some titanium bolts for me too . Also got Sean (r100 Vvc) cutting and welding new arches in for me welding a small hole in the floor and also the front lip needs to be extended for the radiator so it doesn't foul against the turbo.

Here's jut a couple of quick pics as I forgot to take pictures or most of the stripping down lol

Started to order parts to rebuild the subframe too, gaz front shocks, full poly bush kit, upper and lower ball joints, getting my looms together for Adrian to convert my engine loom to 1.8t. and also got a good metro mate (Conor Gta) making my 4x100 hubs.

Loads going on so just waiting on parts to be delivered lol. Hope to get some big jobs done soon!

Can't wait to get it all fitted.

Just dropped all my bits down to the powder coaters so hopefully have that back soon. Then be able to build it back up and out the engine in .
